      The Disciplinary Counsel’s Office is an arm of the Rhode Island Supreme Court that prosecutes attorneys for misconduct before the Disciplinary Board. The Disciplinary Board serves two functions: to protect the public and maintain the integrity of the legal profession. The Disciplinary Counsel Paralegal is expected to provide legal support for the three to four attorneys in the Disciplinary Counsel’s Office. Paralegal duties will include, but not be limited to, assisting attorneys in preparing for hearings, screening panel meetings, and board meetings; preparing agendas and minutes for screening panel and board meetings; performing legal research; reviewing and analyzing confidential case files, including financial records; and drafting confidential reports to be reviewed by Disciplinary Counsel and presented to members of the Disciplinary Board for disposition. Paralegal duties may also include case management, organizing files and other administrative tasks as needed.

      Must be available to work in-person at the Noel Judicial Complex (Kent County location) during court business hours of 8:30 am through 4 pm daily and be available after hours on occasion for scheduled Disciplinary Board meetings and hearings. Candidates must have either an associate degree or bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. A paralegal certificate or degree in paralegal studies is required. Working knowledge of the Rhode Island judiciary system and previous paralegal experience is preferred. Candidates must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Candidates must be able to take and follow direction from Disciplinary Counsel and be able to work independently. The preferred candidate should be proficient in Westlaw (or another legal research tool), Microsoft Word, and Excel
