      Position Overview

      The Illinois Department of Agriculture is seeking individuals, for temporary employment not to exceed 6 months, for the Illinois State Fair summer season. Temporary employees are needed for the following area: Customer Service. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone looking to work in a constantly changing fast paced environment. Successful candidates will be individuals who can work promptly and efficiently in order to maintain that the Illinois State Fair, as well as non-fair events, run effectively.       Job Responsibilities

      1. Maintains clean, safe and attractive public use areas.
      2. Performs a variety of routine clerical duties.
      3. Makes periodic rounds of buildings and grounds for protection against fire, theft or other losses.
      4. Sweeps, scrubs and polishes floors for maintenance of the buildings and grounds on the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
      5. Moves heavy equipment and office equipment including chairs, desks, file cabinets, and transports machinery to garage for major repairs.
      6. Picks up garbage and hauls manure.
      7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

      Minimum Qualifications

      1. Requires knowledge, skills and mental development equivalent to the completion of eight years of elementary school.
      2. Requires no previous experience.

      Rates of Pay

      $14.00 per hour

      Conditions of Employment

      1. May require possession of an appropriate valid driver's license.
      2. May require good physical condition to perform strenuous manual labor tasks for 6.5 hours or more.
      3. May require ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
      4. May require the ability to stand for 6-8 hours.
      5. May require the ability to use Microsoft Office products.
      6. May require the ability to receive payments from customers.

      Job Family: Building, Fleet & Institutional Support

      We are looking to fill positions in the area outlined below:

      * Credentials Working with the Credentials Office in support of areas such as credentials, Camping, Golf Carts and Mega/Jumbo Pass

      * Competitive Events Data entry of all competitive event applications and interaction with applicants to these events

      * Special Events Assisting with all special events that are taking place on the grounds throughout the day during the entire fair

      * Space Rental Measuring locations for vendor exibitor spacing, customer service and cash handling

      * Press Information Office Working with the media tent for the Illinois State Fair; assisting department PIO officer with media related issues for the fair.

      * Natural Resources Basic filing, data entry, file orginization, pesticide product registration.

      * Trailer Parking Assisting owners to park their trailers in a pre-set parking configuration

      Applications will be scored and ranked from highest to lowest score. Applicants will be offered employment in score order. Applicants scoring 1 or less will only be contacted if necessary to fill any vacant positions. Submit applications as early as possible as offers of employment will begin on June 1, 2023, and will continue to be made to qualified applicants in ranking order until all positions for the entire season are filled.
