The Opportunity As the energy sector continues to transition within Australia and globally, WSP’s Energy business is dedicated to supporting that transition. WSP’s Transmission & Electrification team is helping a diverse range of clients tackle the energy transition with a Future Ready approach. Our team assists clients from a broad range of sectors, including Transmission & Distribution, Generation, Renewables, Transportation, Property & Buildings, Defence, Water, and Mining. The role of Secondary Design Engineer in the team provides key electrical engineering input to these projects. What You’ll Do In this dynamic role, you'll report to our Engineering Manager in the Transmission & Electrification team, supporting projects nationally by: * Assisting Senior Engineers in HV (Secondary) design for transmission & distribution projects. * Developing and reviewing technical documentation such as design reports, equipment specifications, cable schedules, and interface documents, with the support of our Senior to Principal Engineers. * Utilizing knowledge of primary substation elements, transmission lines, underground cables, and power system earthing design. * Supporting high voltage scope for Owner’s Engineer and Technical Due Diligence projects. * Implementing Safety-in-Design (SID) and fulfilling legislative requirements in SID. * Assisting or leading design projects and coordinating with various disciplines including Primary, SCADA, Power systems, structural, and drafting. * Undertaking short-term site visits as needed. * Assisting in the preparation of proposals and contributing to business development for the team. About You This role is essential for our future growth and impact. We are looking for a motivated Junior to Professional level Engineer who can support our Project Leaders and contribute valuable technical input to our key projects. In addition, we are seeking a candidate with a: * A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and typically 2-8+ years’ post-graduate experience, ideally in a consultancy environment. * Experience in EHV and HV electrical engineering from conceptual to detailed design in substations, cable systems, transmission & distribution utilities, or renewable energy projects is essential. * Proven experience in secondary design, including protection, control, AC/DC systems, SCADA, and related studies, is required. * Knowledge of IEC61850 implementation is highly advantageous. * Client-facing experience is a plus, but not essential. * Proficiency in proposal and report writing, as well as familiarity with testing and commissioning support activities, is expected. * You should be willing or in the process of obtaining RPEQ/RPEV.
