      This job posting is for a competitive position. The hiring department will conduct a preliminary review of your application to determine who to interview.       ***This posting is for the SECRETARY II exam only. Candidates who successfully pass this exam will be placed on the SECRETARY II eligible list only.***

      Under direction, is responsible for (a) serving as a secretary to a director or a principal in those instances where there is no need to take or transcribe dictation; (b) supervising a small group of clerical workers; or (c) acting as a clerical subject matter specialist requiring at least one (1) year of on-the-job training; performs related duties as required.

      • Operates a personal computer to obtain, process, or file data and information;
      • Operates a computer desktop and computer keyboard;
      • Answers all incoming calls, retrieves voicemail messages, transcribes detailed messages, covers other department phones on an as needed basis;
      • Interviews office and telephone callers and endeavors to resolve minor problems and furnish requested information;
      • Classifies, sorts, and files various data, records, and reports alphabetically and numerically;
      • Initiates telephone calls to obtain or issue information;
      • Plans and schedules own work activities to accomplish necessary objectives;
      • Types letters, memoranda, records, reports and other documents from clear copy, rough draft and other sources;
      • Notifies personnel of visitors or callers;
      • Proofreads documents for accuracy;
      • Supervises and/or coordinate activities or workers engaged in performing clerical duties;
      • Issues various office correspondence and communications to appropriate personnel;
      • Sorts, distributes and/or delivers mail, packages or supplies.

      Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade and three (3) years of typing and/or word processing experience.

      The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be MERGED with the names on the current Open Competitive eligible list. If you are interested in having your name included on the eligible list, you will need to apply for this position within the filing period indicated above and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. It is the responsibility of all applicants to provide a complete list of relevant work experience (previous and current) on the application. Unless otherwise indicated, any year of required experience is based on 12 months of full time employment. Anything below 35 hours/week (or seasonal work) will be prorated.       The examination process will consist of a computerized exam covering Spelling, Name & Number Comparison, Reading Comprehension, Sentence Clarity, Proofreading, Math, Excel 2013, and Word 2013. If special accommodations are required to test, please complete an Accommodations Request located on the CCS website @ https://www.ccsoh.us/Page/2353. Accommodations Requests must be made upon application submission.

      The exam is expected to be administered on Friday, February 16, 2024. Approved applicants will be notified by email of their scheduled test date and time.

      Candidates must bring a picture ID to the test.

      All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and may include a pre-employment drug test.

      The certification process will be the top 10 candidates on the eligible list, or top 25% of the list, whichever is greater, based on overall test score.
