  Duties
  
  
  • Performs installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles utilizing standard operating procedures, written orders and regulatory requirement as a guide to access determination for a wide range of unique circumstances.
  • Provide authoritative guidance and information on security regulations and procedures, exercising sound judgment and discretion in response to telephone and in-person security inquiries.
  • Verify personnel credentials, prints visitor passes and/or badges, creates and edits cardholder records and runs card and/or pass access reports.
  • Serve as a member of the installation’s overall security response capability during actual or simulated incidents.
  
  
  Requirements
  
  
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In severe weather conditions or other emergency situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles. Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis. Employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and others from possession or access to firearms.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an initial and annual physical agility test (PAT).
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • At employment consideration and periodically thereafter, must be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program for social adjustment, emotional stability, sound judgment, flexibility, work well under pressure or emergency conditions, etc.
  • Position may require chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton. Must not have medical conditions that preclude wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals. Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons. Weapons training and qualifications will be conducted IAW AR 190-56.
  • TDY up to 10% may be required.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.   One year of specialized experience which includes: 1.) Control access of vehicles, visitors, or pedestrians. 2.) Use automated systems to verify suitability for visitor entry. 3.) Work with protective organizations to protect property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
