      QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

      The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:

      • A minimum of four (4) years proven experience as a security officer, police officer, or military police officer or any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by the Vice President of Student Affairs;
      • Proven knowledge of security practices and principles;
      • Proven knowledge of security and fire drill procedures and practices;
      • Proven ability to de-escalate hostile persons and/or stressful situations;
      • Ability to assess situations and make proper decisions;
      • Must possess a valid Florida driver's license;
      • Proven skill in providing effective communications to the public to include effective written communication skills;
      • Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows based computer applications;
      • Ability to provide presentations to groups, complete workshops and compose materials, which will raise the level of safety/security training of employees and students.
      • Preference shall be given to the following:
      • Prior or current certification as a Law Enforcement or Security Officer.

      ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

      • Maintaining the security and safety of people and property;
      • Attending and understanding briefings regarding campus and safety/security matters;
      • Compiling and writing reports regarding reportable incidents;
      • Identifying activities requiring follow-up;
      • Providing written and oral reports to the immediate supervisor; and investigating, correcting and/or reporting hazards and unusual or suspicious circumstances to the Security Supervisor for correction or follow-up action.
      • Maintaining contact with and guiding the efforts of contract security personnel;
      • Observing activity and traffic in assigned area and ensuring enforcement of College rules/regulations;
      • Alerting visitors of infractions as well as removing unwanted or disruptive visitors from College property.
      • This position is responsible for the continual education and training of contract security staff, students and employees with regard to personal safety and security.
      • The use of discretion, independent judgment and tact when interacting with students, employees and visitors and in matters of significance is also required.

      SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

      • Patrolling assigned areas;
      • Checking for vandalism, suspicious or criminal activity or persons, or safety/fire hazards;
      • Checking doors and windows of buildings to assure they are tightly closed and locked;
      • Taking corrective action and/or noting in written logs any unlocked doors/windows and submitting information to supervisor;
      • Taking reasonable and safe efforts to detain trespassers or law violators on-site until the arrival of a law enforcement officer;
      • Responding to alarms and dispatched calls;
      • Assessing collected information and taking reasonable corrective actions;
      • Vigilantly monitoring Campus Crisis/Emergency Hotline and portable radio on a regular basis;
      • Submitting information to the Security Supervisor;
      • Rendering basic first aid to injured persons;
      • Receiving and disseminating clear and concise information via portable radio, telephone, verbal and written communications;
      • Safely operating a motor vehicle and golf cart as needed;
      • This position is also responsible for providing clear and concise verbal communications to large and small groups.
      • Completing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned and needed to maintain a safe and secure campus environment.

      PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

      The ability to walk the assigned campus and to climb at least four flights of stairs is required. The ability to read, write speak and understand the English language; prior training in personal defensive tactics; and the ability to safely operate a motorized vehicle is also required. This position also requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
