- Requires driving to City buildings, parking areas and grounds in designated areas to observe unusual behavior and to prevent vandalism.
- Observes CCTV's and Access Control Monitors from a Security Monitoring Center
- Enforces established rules and regulations and answers questions and provides information to the public.
- Observes activities at assigned locations and notifies the Police Department of any emergencies or suspicious activity.
- Performs customer service assistance such as locating and/or directing people at City facilities.
- Investigates and resolves customer security related complaints.
- Analyzes customer service needs and provides reports to supervisor for evaluation.
- Operates portable radio and/or phone to maintain contact with Public Safety.
- Records and reports deficiencies related to the facilities assigned, such as safety hazards and security lighting.
- Receives and investigates security related complaints.
- Analyzes and reacts to emergency situations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

This recruitment process will be used to fill full-time contract and regular-status Security Officer positions with the Glendale Police Department. Contract positions are one-year terms. The benefits offered with contract positions are medical, sick time, and ASRS retirement. Duties may vary depending on assignment:Minimum Qualifications:Two years of experience as a security officer, police officer, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.Knowledge of:Industrial security practicesElectronic security alarms and systemsSkill in:Analyzing and reacting to emergency situationsAbility to:Handle encounters with irate or hostile individualsIdentify hazardous or unsafe conditions or behaviorsDevelop and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the publicEffectively communicate orally and in writingSpecial RequirementsValid Arizona driver's license.May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.Applicants will be required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy.
