      Job Summary :

      Maintains Hospital safety and security and serves the needs of the associates, visitors, patients, and public through the efficient and effective completion of security functions and interpretation of hospital policies and procedures. The Security Officer shall also complete foot, video, and vehicle patrols, patrol checkpoint tours, TrackTik reports, ensure and enforce staff compliance of hospital policies and procedures by evaluating the problems, making out reports, or notifying responsible persons.

      Job Description

      Essential Responsibilities:

      1. The Security Officer shall fulfill all the duties of a Security Officer which includes making patrols in the hospital buildings and around the hospital grounds including checkpoint tours, and shall protect property from theft, vandalism, or other wrongful acts, investigating situations as necessary;
      2. The Security Officer shall document all security related activity by completing reports on TrackTik to include all necessary and pertinent information, pictures and facts of the situations, including documentation of all actions taken;
      3. Security Officer shall be familiar with the physical layout off all hospital campuses and be able to conduct security checks or assign other Security Officers on patrol to respond to calls for service to those facilities calling for assistance or for suspicious activity observed;
      4. Security Officer shall report any emergency issues to the House Supervisor, Engineering staff, and Security Department leadership as appropriate and follow-up on matters where warranted;
      5. Security Officer shall communicate with Security Manager and other Security Supervisors on emergency matters or ongoing problems, including notification to House Supervisor and Administrative Staff on matters that require it;
      6. Ensure adherence to HIPPA regulations and report any violations to the Security Manager and House Supervisor;
      7. Ensure enforcement of hospital parking policies as described in departmental procedures and issuing parking warnings when necessary and completing documentation on TrackTik and the parking log;
      8. Look for unsafe conditions, and when found, take action and report those as necessary to appropriate persons for corrective action, or order equipment to be taken out of service as necessary to promote safety;
      9. Assist in hospital key control by assisting in opening doors as needed and maintaining control of assigned keys;
      10. The Security Officer shall accept cadavers into the morgue and ensure all paperwork is present and completed properly and assist the mortuaries or other entities removing cadavers in the completion of paperwork and then properly document activities on TrackTik;
      11. The Security Officer will be responsible for making and distributing new ID badges;
      12. The Security Officer will be responsible for the assigning of prox access and distributing prox cards when needed;
      13. Ensure visitors and associates in need are escorted by Security Staff to and from parking areas as requested, to include escorts for safety concern only;
      14. Review and stay current with all applicable security department and administrative policies and procedures and be able to properly address issues when confronted with violations of hospital policies, including notification to the violating staffs supervisor when necessary;
      15. The Security Officer will provide just in time training on expectations and hospital policy to prison or corrections staff attending to prisoners;
      16. The Security Officer shall complete escort details of forensic patients whenever they are moved from their room and other patient escorts as requested by the medical staff.
      17. The Security Officer shall assist law enforcement officers in accordance with hospital policies.
      18. The Security Officer shall complete mandatory training and other training as requested and assigned, including Taser, Healthstreams, CPI, CPR, or other training as assigned;
      19. The Security Officers shall maintain the proper wearing of the uniform and proper uniform maintenance;
      20. The Security Officer shall provide the highest level of customer service and timely response to calls for service;
      21. The Security Officer shall investigate serious or complex matters and work to ensure the proper resolution issues and complete all proper documentation and necessary notifications;
      22. The Security Officer shall assist staff and guests on grounds and provide lockouts, jump starts, airing tires and other activities to assist motorists on HRH grounds. The Security Officer shall not change tires or complete any repairs on vehicles;
      23. The Security Officer shall complete work orders to Engineering as needed for the repair of systems or devices;
      24. The Security Officer shall ensure prison guards and law enforcement tending to prisoners adhere to policy and expectations of prison and law enforcement staff with regard to prisoner management;
      25. The Security Officer shall conduct video investigations and properly save recovered video on the security drive according to procedure;
      26. Security Officer shall watch the security camera monitors for any suspicious activity or other activity that requires security response and take action and properly document security actions on TrackTik;
      27. The Security Officer shall maintain departmental relations with other departments in the hospital;
      28. The Security Officer shall ensure that they maintain the cleanliness of the security vehicles in and out as well as properly fueled and logs properly completed during their shift;
      29. The Security Officer shall be required to certify on Taser and will be required to wear the Taser after certification on every shift worked;
      30. The Security Officer shall use discretion and deploy a Taser on a violent subject only after all other options of resolution have been exhausted and in strict accordance with the Use of Force and Taser policies;
      31. The Security Officer shall maintain expected productivity and maintain a secure environment for all staff and guests;
      32. The Security Officer shall assist with filling vacancies on the shift when available and called upon during shortages;
      33. The Security Officer may be called upon to assist with interviewing applicants to fill new positions;
      34. The Security Officer will work to manage and deescalate hostile situations and resolve violent matters using the least amount of force necessary, following the Security Department Use of Force Policy guidelines;
      35. The Security Officer shall report to HRH facilities when ordered due to existing or expected emergency situations;

      Education and Experience Required:

      1. High school diploma or equivalent;

      2. Ability to speak clearly, write legibly, read, and follow oral or written instructions;

      3. Working knowledge of general requirements of a security officer; minimum 5 years applicable experience with law enforcement organization such as Sheriff’s Department, State Police, local law enforcement agency, or Indiana Department of Corrections is required.

      4. Ability to communicate in tense or stressful situations;

      5. Ability to take on-the-job training;

      Mandatory Licensure/Certifications:

      Must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license.
