      THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

      This National Guard position is for a SECURITY SPECIALIST (PROTECTION) (T32), Position Description Number D2500P01 and is part of the AL DOM JFHQ, National Guard.

      Requirements


      • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
      • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
      • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
      • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
      • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
      • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
      • Must attend the ARNG Security Manager Course within 12 months of hire.
      • Must obtain the Security Professional Certification(s) within 24 months of hire.
      • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
      • Individual must possess a minimum of a secret clearance. Depending on State's mission set, the position may be required to obtain and maintain a top secret clearance.

      MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military grade in the Alabama Army National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Alabama Army National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership.       *Other Requirements: For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license. For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.

      SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately. Able to apply procedures and directives by reading and interpreting technical material. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing, using presentation and report formats. Demonstrated ability to follow directions, to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures. Learned ability to assess the surrounding environment to recognize immediate risk levels. Must have the education and validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade for one of the seven organizational program disciplines and its applicable Security Series career.

      SKILL & KNOWLEDGE:
      - Knowledge of a wide range of security specialties to include physical, personal, and operational security to identify and resolve conflicting and complex policy and program objectives, and procedures within the security functional area
      - Knowledge in the specialized field of protection functional areas including antiterrorism, and physical and operations security
      - Working knowledge of information operation security to review classified material
      - Working knowledge of protection construction standards to assess and sign off on installation construction projects
      - Ability to articulate effectively and provide advice and recommendations to supervisors and other security experts or groups at higher and lower echelons
      - Ability to utilize a computer to write reports, access the internet to research intelligence reports and current, world events, and to maintain the MARMS
      - Ability to undertake long-range studies, projects, or forecasts independently as a member of a group, or as the organizer and director with the purpose of enhancing security systems efficiency or influencing future security planning, policies and programs
      - Knowledge of a wide range of security specialist, concepts, principals, criteria, requirements, technology, and practices and ARNG's mission, functions and structure to the unit level
      - Knowledge of DoD and Army mission, functions, and structure to the unit level to ensure effective implementation oversight of programs plans and processes
      - Possess a thorough knowledge of security forces programs and governing policies, directives, instructions, and procedures
      - Comprehensive knowledge of analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to conduct surveys/studies, accomplish projects, and effectively results for the effective management and completion of programs
      - Skill in oral and written communication methods and techniques at various levels and venues
      - Ability to effectively manage and organize various program activities and tasks, singularly and together, and familiarity with administrative requirements of the JFHQ, NGB and Army. These various programs include the need to access the availability of materials, relationship to other protective programs and cost/benefit consideration from within the Protection community
      - Knowledge of Mission Assurance Risk Management System (MARMS) - computer program used to record and assess vulnerabilities associated with a specific installation.
