Job Description

- Performs duties associated with the direct therapeutic care of patients on an assigned shift and hall, a secure forensic unit.
- Monitors patient activities and behaviors to verify a safe, secure environment for the individual patient by performing patient counts, head checks and other routine /special checks.
- Encourages and assists patients to increase independence in activities of daily living.
- Completes all records and documentation electronically and manually to the patients progress and participation as they pertain to treatment.
- Completes mandatory training requirements to maintain age and illness specific and departmental competencies, including forensic and adolescent issues.
- Transports/drives individuals to court appearances, medical appointment and other needs outside the facility.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires successful completion of an approved Security Therapy Aide Training Program or equivalent experience.
- Requires the ability to physically restrain patients as necessary to prevent injury to the patient or others.
- Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.
- Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Position Overview
The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Security Therapy Aide I for the McFarland Mental Health Center located in Springfield, Illinois to perform duties associated with the direct therapeutic care of adult patients in a secure forensic unit on an assigned shift. Conducts activities, utilizes therapeutic interventions and provides basic care of patients consistent with their individual treatment plan. Monitors patient activities and behaviors to verify a safe, secure environment. Encourages and assists patients to increase independence in activities of daily living. Completes all records and documentation. Transports/drives individuals to court appearances, medical appointment and other needs outside the facility. Travels in performance of job duties.
