Job Description
- Req#: 39432
- For a period of six (6) to twelve (12) months participates in and receives six (6) weeks of formal classroom training/instruction to gain an understanding of theories, techniques, and procedures of basic treatment of residents with mental illness.
- Receives on-the-job training in implementing interpersonal relationships and developing a counseling role with selected residents.
- Records and documents unusual incidents.
- Participates in assigned task specific training, computer-based learning and gains on-the-job experience performing duties in accordance with post descriptions.
- Responds to emergency situations requiring quick, agile movement, running, climbing, lifting, bending, twisting, and grasping.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires possession of a class A, B, C or D driver’s license to transport residents to off-site activities.
- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
- Requires ability to respond to emergency situations requiring quick, agile movement, running, climbing, lifting, bending, twisting, and grasping.
- Requires ability to use Self-Contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), fire extinguishers and other emergency equipment.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Position Overview
The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Security Therapy Aide Trainee for the Treatment and Detention Facility (TDF) located in Rushville, Illinois to participate in six (6) weeks of formal classroom training, receiving and completing 800 hours of on-the-job experience to develop the skills and ability necessary to perform general and routine tasks pertaining to protection, security, therapy and sanitation under conditions on an assigned shift/post for a 24/7 maximum security facility for a period of six (6) to twelve (12) months. Obtains specialized training and experience in therapeutic custodial care of residents with mental illness. Records and documents unusual incidents. Responds to emergency situations.
