Job Description

- Under direction, serves as a Senior Accountant for the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES)

Prepares accurate and up-to-date accounting records, timely monthly statements, and other financial reports related to cash management

Performs highly complex professional accounting calculations in determining funding requirement to cover agency expenditures including but not limited to payroll and administrative needs

As directed, assists agency staff, including but not limited to Service Delivery staff, with research concerning problems with benefit payments to claimants

Prepares and submits Cash Management Information Act (CMIA) report

Keeps abreast of new developments related to cash management

Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college, with courses in business administration and accounting
- Requires two (2) years of professional experience in accounting, external auditing, budgetary planning and control or public accounting
- Four (4) years of professional experience in accounting or a related field
- Two (2) years of experience performing complex financial reconciliations
- Two (2) years of professional experience in banking operations or a related field
- Experience using Microsoft Excel to create complex financial analyses and reports
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products, including Outlook, Word and Excel
- Professional experience speaking to various groups to convey policy and procedures in a manner easily understood by diverse audiences
- Requires ability to travel
- Requires an Illinois State Police background check and self-disclosure of any criminal history

Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) is seeking an organized, professional, and results oriented individual to serve as a Senior Accountant. Responsibilities include maintaining systems to ensure wire transfers of monies to and from the US Treasury, preparing cash control journals, researching problems with unemployment insurance (UI) benefit payments to claimants, and preparing financial reports required by state and federal regulations. This position provides a great opportunity for someone who has a strong knowledge of state and federal reporting requirements related to US Treasury disbursements and is dedicated to investigating and resolving problems related to bank balances, fund transfers and reimbursements. The ideal candidate for this position will have extensive experience requesting and coordinating the receipt, deposit and transfer of wire transfer monies and preparing cash control journals and other complex financial reports related to these transfers.
