      Position Summary

      The Senior Accountant performs a wide range of complex accounting activities with a primary emphasis in financial reporting or general accounting. Integral to this role is a substantial involvement in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.

      Responsibilities

      • Compile and analyze quarterly and annual statutory financial statements and reports with attention to detail.
      • Generate month-end journal entries accompanied by comprehensive supporting worksheets and account reconciliations.
      • Perform thorough variance analysis to identify trends and opportunities for optimization.
      • Document procedures and refine accounting processes, offering recommendations for enhanced efficiency.
      • Develop internal reporting packages to facilitate informed decision-making within the organization.
      • Offer expert accounting guidance to colleagues and provide mentorship to less experienced team members.
      • Undertake special projects aimed at improving operational effectiveness and achieving strategic objectives.
      • Contribute to the assessment and enhancement of accounting tools and software to ensure optimal functionality.
      • Perform other duties as assigned.

      Qualifications


      • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related discipline
      • Three or more years as a staff accountant in the insurance industry
      • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or CPA candidate
      • Knowledge of statutory accounting and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
      • Proficient in analysis, problem solving and prioritization
      • Skill in organizational and time management with attention to detail, ensuring tasks and deliverables are executed with accuracy and precision
      • Ability to work independently, displaying self-motivation and accountability in achieving goals and deadlines
      • Skill in verbal and written communication, facilitating clear and effective exchange of information
      • Ability to function independently as well as collaborate in a team environment with skill in interpersonal communication and the ability to multi-task
      • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and accounting software
