- Partner closely with the Accounting manager on month end close responsibilities to ensure that the financial statements are prepared accurately and timely
- Prepare and analyze data to record monthly journal entries
- Actively prepare account reconciliations to manage the financial statements and ensure financial statements are prepared timely and accurately and in compliance with company policies and GAAP
- Understand key drivers in the financial statements as part of the month end close procedures and proactively partner with finance and the broader organization to ensure a solid understand of the impact of business decisions
- Manage accounting policies and procedures to ensure financial statements are compliant. As needed, develop documentation in order to maintain a solid understanding of policies and procedures
- Partner with various departments in the Company to provide and receive information pertinent to various accounting issues and proactively provide insights to general ledger activities
- Proactively respond to internal and external auditor requests for support documentation
- Partner with external firms to ensure tax compliance, including annual tax reporting, sales & use tax, state and federal requirements
- Lead accounting support for the organization
- Collaborate with the accounting & finance team and across the organization to continuously educate and drive awareness of processes which impact the financial statements in order to improve processes
- Drive continuous improvements while focusing on repeatable and scalable processes
- Collaborate with the finance team and cross functional teams to support ad hoc projects related to general ledger activities. Proactively seek opportunities to offer value to other departments by moving accounting related tasks performed outside of accounting to the responsibility of the accounting team
- Use and support the operating excellence tools: strategy A3's, work structure, tactical plans, meeting compass & problem solving documents
- Establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with management, your peers and team members. Collaborate with other individuals and teams to complete tasks and facilitate improvement projects
- Manage vendor relationships through a defined meeting cadence and supplier scorecard
- Be visible to all teams and all employees
- Be available on a consulting level to our franchise group
- Create monthly Key Result Areas report. Tell the story of what results we achieved, why the results were ahead / behind target and what is being worked on to make them better
- Review and check direct reports key result areas. Be a resource to direct & align measurements through each level of the team
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; CPA preferred
- 4+ years' experience in Corporate Accounting or Finance roles, preferred
- Detailed working knowledge of Microsoft Office with a primary focus on Microsoft Excel
- Demonstrated ability to exercise strong judgement and able to work well independently
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks and multi-task effectively
- Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of Company personnel and those outside the Company.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Detailed orientated and analytical.
Job Description
Primary Objective & Scope of Position:
T he Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the month end close process with ownership of the more complex accounting entries and reconciliations. Ensuring that reconciliations are used to manage financial transactions and working with the organization to actively manage processes impacting the financial statements (i.e. vendor rebates, timing of payments and monthly transactions). This role would be responsible for identifying opportunities to drive "Best Practice" processes and procedures cross functional to improve processes impacting the financial statements (i.e. over and short transactions, fixed asset addition/disposal processes, TSI freight reimbursement credits)
