      Position Objective:
      The Senior Accountant is responsible for the general ledger and balance sheet, and prepares and reconciles monthly financial statements. Ensures that all transactions in the general ledger are done in accordance with governmental accounting principles. This position is also responsible for the preparation and processing of payroll for all county employees.Essential Functions:
      • Audits the timesheets submitted by all departments for accuracy and proper recording of time.
      • Processes payroll calculations and confirms wages, deductions and benefits are made accurately.
      • Posts payroll data, prepares tax reports and sees that the employers share of applicable taxes is paid; prepares monthly, quarterly and annual tax deposits, forms and reports and generate W-2’s.
      • Compile, analyze and review reports, journal entries and other financial information for accuracy and compliance with prescribed financial standards, laws and regulations.
      • Perform monthly reconciliation of cash balances and general ledger accounts.
      • Manage complex journal entries and ensure proper general ledger coding in support of monthly closings.
      • Balance cash accounts across all governmental funds with the Treasurer’s cash totals.
      • Runs daily ACH/wire payment report and determine where the funds are to be receipted into.
      • Oversees all employee master setup entered by Human Resources; maintains county-wide pay, deduction and benefits changes within the employee master file.
      • Maintains county-wide pay, deduction and benefit codes within the payroll system.
      • Audits county-wide pay changes submitted by departments to the current pay policy and wage structure.
      • Creates journal entries related to the distribution of payroll expenditures, benefits and deductions.
      • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
      • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

      • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or related field plus five years of progressively responsible professional accounting work.
      • Working knowledge of the principles and practices common to governmental and fund accounting.
      • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
      • Ability to operate standard office equipment and computers with working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
      Physical Requirements:
      • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential position functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards
      • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards
      • This position frequently remains stationary for long periods of time and needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
      • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine and printer.
      • Must be able to move up to 20 pounds unassisted, and move 40 pounds with assistance.
      • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively on telephone, in-person and in writing.
      Working Environment:
      • Most work is performed indoors in an office where noise and interruptions often occur.
      • Overtime hours may be required to meet deadlines, especially during year-end and during election cycles.
      • Some travel may be required for training and delivering of supplies to polling locations.
      • Occasional work in warehouse like setting for the purpose of loading election supplies.
