- Collaborate with directors to prepare budget information. Monitor accounts/expenditures; reconcile statements. Prepare accounting reports and other financial information for other units.
- Complete basic, complex, and non-routine recurring reconciliations and reporting following some pre-established processes, and developing new processes as needed. Significant involvement in month-end and year-end accounting/reporting.
- Performs some complex and ad-hoc analysis. Prepare specialized reports that involves establishing new processes. Use expert knowledge of financial systems .Make recommendations for new processes to managers and directors.
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP accounting standards. Contribute to implementation of policies and procedures related to accounting and reporting standards.
- Initiate complex specialized, and non-routine original and correcting journal entries. Reviews and approves non-routine transactions. Open/close accounts. Prepares and sends uploads to MAUI and troubleshoots errors.
- Provide training to staff on understanding financial systems and reports.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and accounting experience.
- Demonstrated professional accounting experience (typically 1 - 3 years).
- Working knowledge of and the ability to use accounting methods, processes, and tools for maintaining and preparing financial statements and reports.
- Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
- Demonstrated working knowledge and proficiency in use of Microsoft Office software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Understanding of the necessity and value of accuracy and attention to detail; ability to process information with high levels of accuracy.
- Working knowledge of an organization's billing requirements; the ability to utilize the proper tools and follow accounts receivable practices and procedures.
- Working experience with University of Iowa business policies and procedures.
