Job Description

- With guidance, works on assignments day-to-day accounting operations of a small size, scope and/or diversity
- Collects and collates data shared by other departments and responds to queries from internal and external clients and assists the team with the management of Financial Systems tools and updates standard operating procedures and training documents related to new business process
- Performs monthly closing activities by preparing, verifying, and entering accurate journal entries into the general ledger.
- Prepares monthly reconciliations and financial analyses, monitors grant funding expenditure, and ensures the institution's financial position aligns with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Monitors ancillary services, prepares key account analyses and reviews departmental journal entries for accuracy
- Prepares annual financial reports and management reports including variance analysis for financial and/or capital projects
- Monitors external funding programs and prepares annual reports in accordance with Ministry/Federal agreement guidelines
- Assists with the preparation of the annual audit and program audits, following GAAP guidelines
- Assists with the preparation of the monthly financial statements and monthly reconciliations
- Supports the team with Financial Planning and forecasting
- Collaborates with stakeholders for banking operations, Ministry reporting, expenses, purchases and payroll for research projects through journal entries
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration or other related field or a combination of training and experience
- A Professional designation (CPA) or equivalent is required.
- Minimum two (2) years’ work experience in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or relevant area
- Advanced working knowledge/competence in the use of integrated financial systems and data management software tools (i.e., PeopleSoft, Power BI, Excel, etc.)
- Demonstrated analytical skills complemented by intuition and creativity.
- Proficient in resolving issues independently, without the need for intervention by senior management.
- Proven expertise in financial planning and reporting techniques.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities, capable of explaining accounting procedures to non-financial individuals, including Deans, Directors, and Chairs, within a diverse College community.
- Sensitivity to the challenges of working within a multicultural environment.
- Strong people management, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- A forward-thinking mindset with a dedication to continuous improvement.

- Candidates must be able to travel between Seneca campus locations.
Position Summary
The Senior Analyst is responsible for analyzing forecasted financial models and monitoring approved operating and/or capital budgets using accounting principles. They provide support in internal and external reporting, including annual audit, filing tax returns, external filings and special purpose funding audits. Additionally, they assist Seneca with PeopleSoft Finance, AR, bank reconciliation and budget display systems, ensuring security and updating standard operating procedures.
