      Overview

      The Houston, TX office of Lewis Brisbois, a full-service AmLaw 100 firm, is actively seeking a Senior Analyst, Tax Accounting to to join our accounting department. This position will utilize analytical expertise to support the accounting and tax functions across the firm. This dynamic position requires a strong comprehension of accounting, accounting systems, and tax. This role will provide support to the firm’s internal accounting and tax functions by ensuring the obligations of the department are completed timely and accurately. This individual will regularly engage in evaluation of process as well as policies and procedures to ensure compliance with accounting standards. This role will task the incumbent with regularly advising management and other personnel of recommended internal controls.

      Responsibilities

      The following list of essential functions is not exhaustive, and other duties may be assigned in addition to those listed. The items listed are considered daily functions associated with this position.

      • Regularly execute processes and procedures to ensure continual compliance with accounting policies and procedures, as well as conducting research on current accounting guidelines working to identify the appropriate guidelines to apply under specific circumstances as necessary.
      • Participate in the annual tax compliance reporting and review, including but not limited to developing and maintaining supporting schedules and workflows.
      • Coordinate third-party compliance audits to ensure accurate and timely response. Assist with the annual external audit of the firm’s financial statements as needed.
      • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual business tax filings, including but not limited to use tax, property tax, occupation ad excise tax, and gross receipts tax.
      • Complete annual state and local registration renewals, including coordinating and communicating with local office staff as required.
      • Collaborate in the execution of processes surrounding annual bar renewals as necessary.
      • Perform quality review of detailed schedules upon completion.
      • Evaluate internal procedures and offer recommendations on enhancements as necessary.
      • Oversee the completion of general ledger and bank account reconciliations, as required. Take initiatives to appropriately resolve reconciling items and make improvements to the accuracy and integrity of the firm’s financial statements. Serve as a resource to others in this process.
      • Ensure the provision of support to the annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting processes throughout the year as needed.
      • Appropriately manage relationships with third party providers/advisors.
      • Monitor and maintain departmental compliance calendar, and work to ensure internal and external deadlines are met in a timely manner.

      Qualifications

      Minimum Requirements:

      • A Bachelor’s Degree coupled with five (5) years’ experience in general ledger, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, and tax experience, including partnership and individual taxation.
      • Ability to analyze moderately complex accounting and tax information, including tax research.
      • Strong team-oriented mindset, while also possessing the ability to work both proactively and independently.
      • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to manage and meet numerous external deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
      • Superb critical thinking and problem solving skills, with the ability to guide others.
