UHN Data & Analytics supports UHN in data-driven decisions, data literacy, performance improvement, data governance, data infrastructure/tools, advanced analytics, and automation. The Performance Improvement & Excellence (PIE) team works under the direction of the Chief Data & Analytics Officer and in tight partnership with clinical & administrative leadership, to lead and manage performance improvement and transformation initiatives, using data, to accomplish measurable outcomes.

      Position Summary

      The Senior Analytics Specialist is responsible collaborating with both clinical and non-clinical programs to interpret, analyze, report, and visualize data. The primary objective is to provide insights to monitor and optimize organizational performance in key areas such as quality, safety, operations, and planning. Ultimately helping drive innovative initiatives, informing program priorities, and evaluating program outcomes.

      Duties

      • Assist with engagement of clinical and operations teams to understand problems, current state and develop strategies for optimizing performance based on data-driven insights.
      • Facilitate communication between data analysts, clinicians, and program managers to ensure a shared understanding of data-driven recommendations.
      • Develop and report on clinical, quality and operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); interpreting, visualizing, and summarizing complex organizational data to tell a story in a succinct and visually appealing manner.
      • Utilize advanced analytical techniques and implement appropriate analytics solutions (predictive analytics, modeling, simulation, dashboards, and reports) to interpret complex datasets related to clinical and non-clinical programs.
      • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate datasets to identifying, analyzing, and interpreting trends in data within and across programs, providing trends, patterns, in order to prioritize opportunities for improvement.
      • Act as a liaison between technical and non-technical team members, translating complex data findings into actionable insights for clinical program improvement.
      • Conduct literature review, requirements gathering, workflow process redesign, and support continuous improvement processes
      • Assists in interpretation of results and preparation of material for business case development, presentation, publication, and/or grants
      • Lead simple to moderately complex data-related/operational efficiency/process improvement projects using project management experience and skills.
      • Maintain relationships with internal and external partners who frequently use and/or provide health data and work collaboratively with all areas of UHN and Data & Analytics
      • Represent Data & Analytics in a professional manner amongst clinical, education and research teams
      • Coordinating and facilitating Committee and Working Groups that provides strategic guidance and management direction to the organization
      • Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging trends in data analysis to enhance processes and methodologies.
      • Perform other duties as assigned

        Qualifications

        • An Undergraduate Degree in Health Informatics, Public Health or related field
        • Minimum 2 years of experience in a healthcare environment supporting analytics, dashboards, simulation, and reporting or equivalent;
        • Minimum 1 year of related experience in project management or process improvement
        • Experience designing and developing dashboards, routine and ad-hoc reports from multiple datasets
        • Ability to incorporate subject matter expertise, published literature, and evidence to develop innovative analytics solutions that meet program requirements
        • Hands on experience with the CIHI datasets, Discharge Abstract Database (DAD), National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS), Continuing Care Reporting System (CCRS), National Rehabilitation Reporting System (NRS), or other large data sets (e.g. Wait Times)
        • Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Visio, Project, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and SharePoint)
        • Demonstrated well-formed organizational, time management, communication, decision making and facilitation skills
        • Flexibility working in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail
        • Excellent data analysis skills to identify patterns, visualize findings and communicate insights
        • Able to work with minimal supervision on moderately complex tasks
        • Able to work with multidisciplinary teams in a positive and productive manner
        • Experience developing presentations and presenting to various stakeholder groups
        • Experience in business writing skills and documentation
        • Master’s degree in a relevant field considered an asset
        • Experience working in research and familiarity with the EPIC Health Information System considered an asset
        • Knowledge of performance improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean) including certification in relevant areas (e.g., Six Sigma Green Belt) considered an asset
        • Knowledge and experience of PMI project management lifecycles including certification in relevant areas (e.g. CAPM; PMP) considered an asset
        • Knowledge of the Ontario health care system and public health considered an asset
        • Proficiency in R, Python, SQL, MS Azure, MS Power BI and simulation software [e.g. Simul8] considered an asset
