      Role Definition

      Caterpillar’s Large Power Systems Division has an opening as a Senior Associate Engineer in the Fuel Systems alternative fuels injector team. In this role located in Pontiac IL, you would join a core team of engineers developing and supporting new advanced high-pressure diesel/methanol fuel systems technology for Caterpillar large engines. The position offers a breadth of product development experiences: concept design, hands on testing, NTI/NPI program leadership, structural/hydraulic/electrical analysis, supplier collaboration, design validation, manufacturing improvements, assembly planning, and mechatronics control strategy development.

      Responsibilities

      • Develop and evaluate concepts for design and performance improvements
      • Lead and support New Technology Introduction (NTI), New Product Introduction (NPI) and Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) programs
      • Collaborate and communicate with internal and external customers, suppliers, team members, & manufacturing facilities
      • Review and approve process change requests and PPAP’s
      • Conduct bench endurance testing for validation of new designs and component improvements
      • Conduct product maintenance support including drawing releases

      Degree & Experience Requirement

      • Bachelor’s degree in accredited Engineering field and 1+ years of experience OR
      • Master’s degree in accredited Engineering field

      • Uses flow charts, Pareto charts, fish diagrams, etc. to disclose meaningful data patterns.

      Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

      Level Working Knowledge:

      • Delivers helpful feedback that focuses on behaviors without offending the recipient.
      • Listens to feedback without defensiveness and uses it for own communication effectiveness.
      • Makes oral presentations and writes reports needed for own work.
      • Avoids technical jargon when inappropriate.
      • Looks for and considers non-verbal cues from individuals and groups.

      Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.

      Level Working Knowledge:

      • Documents common hardware, software and communications problems and likely resolutions.
      • Troubleshoots typical technical problems in a specific area.
      • Works with vendor-specific diagnostic guides, tools and utilities to discover application problems.
      • Adheres to standard troubleshooting procedures to ensure effectiveness of resolutions.
      • Participates in setting evaluation standards and criterion for troubleshooting.
