      Job Description

      Ares Alternative Credit (“Alt Credit”) is a leading participant in the global alternative credit markets with approximately $25.9 billion of assets under management (“AUM”) invested across multiple, actively-managed funds and accounts as of March 31, 2023. The Alt Credit Team today comprises over 60 investment professionals located primarily in three Ares offices: New York City, Atlanta and London.

      Ares’ Alt Credit platform employs strategies that are asset-focused, making investments backed by assets and contractual cash flows such as loans, leases and receivables. Alt Credit fills gaps in the capital markets between credit, private equity and real estate, investing across a spectrum of liquid and illiquid opportunities that include various specialty finance sectors, net leases, structured products, cash flow streams (e.g., royalties, licensing, management fees), and other asset types.

      Ares is currently seeking a Quantitative Developer to add to the Alt Credit team, working in New York City. The Quantitative Developer will develop and support the quantitative systems within the Alternative Credit team – including, but not limited to systems development, reporting, financial modelling and quantitate analysis. The qualified candidate will have a deep understanding of and skillset reflecting advanced financial modeling, programming, and database skills preferably with experience related to securitizations and data analytics. The candidate will work in a dynamic investing environment and will be expected to both manage long term projects and provide frequent ad-hoc analyses.

      Primary functions and responsibilities:

      The Quantitative Developer will be responsible for all parts of Alt Credit team’s quantitative systems and development including databases, models, and data analytics. The team has built various proprietary investment analytic systems which are integrated into the investment process and allow for more informed decision making. The role, as a part of this team, is to continue the evolution of these systems and processes, to design for and maintain a state-of-the-art investing system. They will also be responsible for supporting investor reporting and must be able to synthesize complicated information into easily understandable reports. The candidate must possess strong skills and intellectual creativity in software and systems development to aid in all parts of the Alt Credit’s processes.

      Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

      • System Development:
        • Develop and maintain databases which monitor Alt Credit markets and investment portfolios
        • Develop and productionize proprietary analytics to better inform investment decision making
        • Manage the ETL processes to ensure data from 3rd party and proprietary sources are accurately and efficiently tracked
        • Work with the Ares technology and research departments to ensure the systems are based on modern infrastructure
      • Model Development:
        • Develop and enhance various models to forecast investment performance under various scenarios
        • Apply quantitative methods to analyze underlying asset performance and provide advanced cashflow analysis
      • Support investor and investment reporting
        • Develop systematic investment and fund reporting. Target audiences are both internal (investment team, portfolio management, strategy) and external (investors, marketing)
        • Work closely with investment and investor relations teams to ensure what is being provided is accurate and meaningful
        • Leverage internal Ares resources to ensure reporting processes are efficient
      • Contribute to various team projects to further strengthen or enhance our investment process.

      Qualifications:

      Education:

      • Bachelor’s degree required with outstanding academic achievement.
      • Ideally candidates have a degree or experience in finance, mathematics, computer science or a related field.

      Experience:

      • 5+ years of relevant work experience in fixed income with knowledge of bond mathematics
      • Programming and database experience.
      • Sophisticated modeling and analytical capabilities with respect to financial data.
      • Asset-backed investment experience is preferred.
      • Experience with SQL, Excel, VBA, INTEX and Microsoft Office.
      • Experience with C++, Python and Power BI are preferred.
      • Experience with cloud infrastructure and version control systems are a plus.

      Compensation

      The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.

      $170,000.00 - $200,000.00
