      Who we're looking for:

      Join our team at Sportsnet, where we empower sports fans with cutting-edge statistics and news data throughout our platforms, including sportsnet.ca and our mobile app.

      As a Senior Backend Developer on our Sportsnet Stats and Data team, you will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to architect, develop, and maintain robust backend applications using Golang. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless integration and timely display of sports data across our digital platforms. This is a team leadership position where you'll mentor junior team members and contribute to our long-term technical roadmap.

      What you'll do:

      • Design and implement robust and scalable backend systems using Golang.

      • Play a crucial role in steering the technical direction and roadmap of the team.

      • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to process and display sports data accurately and efficiently.

      • Mentor and provide technical leadership to team members.

      • Ensure appropriate monitoring and alerting systems are in place.

      • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies for collaborative feature design and delivery.

      • Support and teach team members through pair programming and code reviews.

      • Contribute to on-call support during high-profile live events like the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

      What you bring:

      • 8+ years of experience in backend development with expertise in building APIs.

      • Proficiency in backend development using Golang

      • Familiarity with Ruby on Rails is a plus.

      • Experience with AWS systems

      • Experience with relational databases like PostgreSQL and MySQL.

      • Experience with Elasticsearch is a plus.

      • Familiarity with API development and integration.

      • Comfortable with Git/GitHub for version control.

      • Experience with Agile/Scrum practices.

      • Knowledge of monitoring tools such as New Relic or similar.

      • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

      • Familiarity with caching strategies and tools such as Redis or similar.

      • Previous exposure to sports statistics or data analytics is advantageous.

      • Passion for sports and a deep understanding of sports culture is advantageous.

      • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

      • Proven experience as a senior backend developer, ideally within a high-traffic web or mobile app environment.
