Job Description

As Senior Corporate Counsel – Intellectual Property, you will focus on IP strategy and management of Best Buy’s IP portfolio, with an emphasis on trademarks. You will respond to third-party claims, negotiate IP agreements, and support brand management. A successful candidate will bring expertise in IP law, strong communication skills, the ability to find creative solutions, and be an independent decision maker. This role is hybrid, which means you will be required to work some days on-site at the Best Buy location listed on this posting and some days virtually from home or other non-Best Buy location. What you’ll do

• Strategy development for Best Buy’s domestic and international trademark portfolio
• Management of clearance, prosecution, maintenance, and enforcement for Best Buy’s trademark portfolio
• Integrating and partnering with Best Buy internal business clients to understand and meet their business objectives and legal needs with respect to IP matters
• Support of patent prosecution process
• Consulting, advising, and negotiating agreements with respect to IP matters, and supporting due diligence projects as related to IP
• Manage a team of direct reports
• Management of outside counsel and internal budgets

Basic Qualifications:

• JD Degree from an Accredited Law School & License to Practice in MN
• 5 years of post-bar practicing attorney experience providing legal support in a combination of law firm, government or corporate settings
• 5 years of trademark experience
• 2 years of formal or informal people leadership experience
• Strong organizational and analytical skills, a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, excellent client relation skills, detail oriented, and an ability to work quickly and independently in a fast-paced corporate environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Multi-brand experience
• Experience managing a team of direct reports
• Familiar with IP management products and services
