      POSITION SUMMARY:

      The successful candidate will be an experienced management side traditional labor and employment attorney responsible for the following activities: providing day-to-day legal counseling in a broad range of labor and employment law matters; managing employment and labor litigation, including class and collective action matters, as well as administrative, regulatory and enforcement matters; conducting investigations; preparing responses to administrative charges and inquiries; conducting research and training; and, developing and delivering preventive law presentations. The position entails significant interaction with in-house business organizations, government agencies and other external parties. The position requires collaboration with and cost-effective management of outside counsel in a variety of jurisdictions and an enthusiasm for a varied set of responsibilities.

      KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Provides day-to-day strategic and proactive labor and employment law advice, counsel and guidance to Human Resources and management on a variety of subjects, including hiring practices and procedures, employee discipline, performance management and separations, investigations, protected leaves and accommodations, wage and hour requirements, contingent workforce management, collective bargaining obligations and strategies, labor relations, unfair labor practices, grievances, and arbitrations.
      • Ensures compliance with labor and employment laws and regulations, including development, implementation, interpretation, and guidance regarding company policies and practices; conducts investigations into related issues.
      • Manages labor and employment law claim and litigation matters, including class and collective action matters, and represents the company in mediation, arbitration and/or responding to federal and state administrative/regulatory agency charges.
      • Develops and implements programs, conducts presentations, and participates in other activities to educate employees on company policies, procedures, and legal compliance.


      EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

      • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited college or university required
      • Current license to practice law and admission in a U.S. state bar, member in good standing required
      • 10 or more years of experience practicing as a licensed attorney in one or more states (a combination of in-house and law firm experience preferred) in labor and employment law required; California experience a plus
      • Extensive experience advising on and litigating class and collective actions, including in California, preferred
      • Experience representing public companies preferred, as well as oil and gas industry experience
      • Experience with international business operations, federal government contracting compliance, corporate M&A transactions, and data security and privacy compliance preferred
      • Experience with executive compensation and employee health and welfare benefit plans a plus

      • Ability to manage and prioritize assignments which may be broad in scope and complexity, and which involve collaborative work with employees in different departments or with varying degrees of seniority
