- Supports the collection, storage, maintenance, and data quality of critical research data throughout its lifecycle while maintaining data provenance and data integrity.
- Ensures that analytic and data management solutions leverage best practice, secure, and compliant technology and are implemented in accordance with institutional, local, and federal policies. Ensures that information is disseminated in accordance with established policies and procedures. This includes support for both human subjects and non-human subject research.
- Conducts complex data analysis across disparate data sources to support researchers in development of key insights. This may include both process and data analysis as well as advanced analytic techniques like NLP.
- Engages directly with investigators and end-users, gathers and documents business and technical requirements, creates standards and best practices, designs solutions, implements them and keeps customer informed as projects progress.
- Contributes to the development and implementation of data strategies, including identifying areas for process improvement and enhanced data-driven decision making.
- Provides guidance and mentorship to junior data analysts and other members of the data community.
- Plays an important role supporting the implementation and use of enterprise research data assets and products, including developing best practice guidelines, code templates, and other materials as needed.
- Participates in project teams and collaborates effectively with team members and stakeholders. Supports development and tracking of tasks/user stories and estimates.
- Works closely with data engineers to integrate multiple complex processes and disciplines to meet business and technical requirements.
- Generates documentation for all tasks and assignments including business and technical requirements, code, data dictionaries, user guides, and updates within ticket or task management systems.
- May support business intelligence applications by preparing data for ingestion with these tools and/or creating data visualizations.
- Supports a complex and dynamic portfolio of projects which could include feasibility and data profiling for new grant proposals, assessing data quality and completeness for observational data mapped into the OMOP CDM, and providing data management support for multi-site data coordinating centers.
- These projects will leverage IT@JH managed software and involve a variety of data storage and analytics platforms, both on-prem and cloud-based, including Azure/Fabric, AWS, Databricks, RStudio, python, SQL Server, REDCap, and PowerBI among others.
- The portfolio is dynamic and includes smaller, less complex projects as well as highly complex, larger initiatives.
- The candidate will need to engage with individual contributors and leaders in a variety of roles and levels within the University and Medicine organizations.
- Strong analytical ability to gather data and perform transformation and complex data analysis to solve both business and technical problems.
- Proficiency in translating raw data into meaningful information.
- Experience directly engaging with end users to understand requirements and develop analyses and deliverables to meet those requirements.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate technology concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Must be well-organized, detail-oriented, self-starter and proactive.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and conflicting demands.
- Strong critical thinker with problem solving aptitude and analytical abilities.

- Bachelor's Degree.
- Five years' experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- Minimum of 2 years working with data lakes and/or databases.
- At least 1 year of hands-on experience analyzing data for research.
- Experience with OMOP and/or other common data models .
- Experience with SQL, python, or R .
- Experience with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
- Experience in supporting release of data for human subject research in accordance with the HIPAA Privacy and Security rules and the Common Rule.
- Epic certification for Cogito, Clarity, and/or Caboodle.
IT@JH Research Data Analytics and Engineering is seeking a Senior Data Analyst who will work to understand the diverse requirements of the Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Medicine research community and develop solution sets to meet their needs. Research IT is a growing and developing area within the IT@JH organization. This role will help support and implement a new set of service offerings for the Research Data Analytics and Engineering unit being rolled out under the Office of the Deputy CIO. The objective of this unit is supporting and advancing the management of research data across its lifecycle.
