      What you will do

      Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. Amgen leverages Generative AI in the discovery and optimization of biologics. We are seeking experienced protein designers with a deep understanding of the state-of-the-art in generative models. The ideal candidate will have experience with: (i) customizing and training novel generative models (as opposed to simply using pre-trained models), (ii) using generative models to design libraries and/or panels; (iii) interpreting the resulting wet-lab data to improve the models and/or designs.

      This position can be remote or based in the US or Canada.

      • Design and optimize proteins including therapeutic candidates and enzymes using AI/ML
      • Pre-train, fine-tune, and apply generative and predictive models
      • Work closely with laboratory scientists to advance pipeline projects
      • Serve as technical lead on internal and external projects
      • Mentor junior data scientists
      • Take an active leadership role in guiding new technology development, infrastructure improvements, and establishing best practices

      Basic Qualifications:

      Doctorate degree and 2 years of experience in quantitative analytics and applied data science

      Or

      Master’s degree and 6 years of experience in quantitative analytics and applied data science

      Or

      Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of experience in quantitative analytics and applied data science

      Or

      Associate’s degree and 10 years of experience in quantitative analytics and applied data science

      Or

      High school diploma / GED and 12 years of experience in quantitative analytics and applied data science

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Doctorate degree in a quantitative field
      • 5+ years of industry experience in quantitative analytics and applied data science
      • Strong proficiency in programming
      • Experience building a variety of machine learning models from complex data sets
      • Excellent communicator able to write and speak about technical concepts to business, technical, and lay audiences
      • Experience working with data relevant to the discovery and optimization of biologics
      • Experience with traditional tools for molecular modeling and design
      • Experience with cloud computing
      • Experience with Git or similar version control tools
      • Experience with deep learning models, especially transformers or diffusion models
      • Experience leading external collaborations and partnerships

      The annual base salary range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $152,838 - $181,535.
