- Research in-scope business risks and associated business processes
- Gain understanding of relevant systems and underlying data
- Design data-driven objectives to assess risks and controls
- Use analytical tools and scripts to execute objectives
- Communicate results and recommendations to audit teams and business partners
- Work independently to Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements
- Business Statistics: Working knowledge of statistical tools, processes, and practices to describe business results in measurable scales; ability to use statistical tools and processes to assist in making business decisions.
- Analytical Thinking: Working knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
- Programming Languages: Working knowledge of basic concepts and capabilities of programming; ability to use tools, techniques and platforms to write and modify programming languages.
- Query and Database Access Tools: Extensive experience with data management systems; ability to use, support and access facilities for searching, extracting and formatting data for further use.
- High degree of attention to Detail. Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in technology-related or quantitative, and 2-5 years of professional experience in analytics.
- Experience with ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) design
- Proficiency with data science related programing languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R, etc.) and their related packages (e.g., Pandas, Numpy, etc)
- Proficiency with data warehousing and database solutions (Snowflake preferred)
- Experience with version control and code repositories (e.g., Git, GitHub, Azure DevOps)
- Proficiency with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau). Demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and improve dashboards and data models preferred
- Understanding of Caterpillar’s business structure and exposure to Caterpillar ERP and IT systems
- Risk and controls experience
- Ability and desire to learn quickly, demonstrated intellectual curiosity

As a Senior Data Scientist within Internal Auditing & Advisory Services (IAAS), you will be a technical expert collaborating with audit teams to create data driven objectives to assess and identify potential risk, such as inefficient processes and controls. You will be responsible for identifying and managing data sources, executing analytics, and communicating results to audit teams and business partners.
This position offers a unique opportunity to learn about Caterpillar, to gain exposure and interact with senior leaders across the company, and to develop a risks and controls mindset that will be beneficial throughout your career. You will conduct 8-12 analytics projects annually, spanning a wide variety of processes and business units across the corporation.

Summary Pay Range:
$110,520.00 - $179,640.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
