We are seeking an experienced Senior SQL Database Administrator to lead the design, implementation, and management of enterprise-level Microsoft SQL Server environments. The Sr. SQL DBA will be responsible for ensuring database availability, performance optimization, security, scalability, and disaster recovery. This role will partner with application development, infrastructure, and security teams to support mission-critical business systems.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration
Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server instances across production, development, and test environments.
Manage database security, roles, users, and permissions in compliance with company policies.
Monitor and optimize SQL Server performance, queries, indexes, and resource utilization.
Plan and implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
Performance & Optimization
Conduct root-cause analysis of performance issues and implement tuning recommendations.
Optimize stored procedures, functions, indexes, and queries.
Ensure high availability through clustering, replication, log shipping, and Always On Availability Groups.
Data Management & Integration
Support ETL processes, data migrations, and integration with third-party systems.
Implement and maintain data archiving, partitioning, and retention strategies.
Ensure data integrity, consistency, and compliance with regulations (e.g., HIPAA, SOX).
Automation & Maintenance
Develop automation scripts for monitoring, maintenance, and deployments using PowerShell or T-SQL.
Implement proactive health checks and alerting for SQL environments.
Collaboration & Leadership
Work closely with development teams to review database designs and queries.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior DBAs and database developers.
Participate in on-call rotation and provide escalation support for critical issues.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
7+ years of experience in SQL Server administration, including versions 2016 and above.
Strong expertise in:
SQL Server Performance Tuning and Query Optimization
Backup/Restore, Disaster Recovery, and High Availability Solutions (Always On, Clustering, Replication, etc.)
Security best practices and auditing
Indexing strategies and partitioning
Hands-on experience with cloud databases (Azure SQL, AWS RDS) preferred.
Proficiency in PowerShell and T-SQL scripting.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS.
Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and BI tools.
Familiarity with DevOps practices (CI/CD pipelines, source control for SQL).
Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or equivalent certification.
