      Job Description

      The primary responsibility for a Senior Design Engineer (Engineer IV) is to provide structural design of metal buildings and oversee design of engineering projects under the direction of Engineering Director. The Design Engineer will be accountable for high quality, on-time delivery of technical deliverables in support of customer specific requirements, support continuous improvement programs and productivity initiatives, identify, and develop innovative buildings solutions that meet business needs, manage challenging issues within brand segment, and contribute to business strategy.

      DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Provide accurate, easy-to-follow designs or guidance that meet code requirements, manufacturing constraints and system deadlines that result in low-cost, easy to erect building systems that meet the customer’s needs and company procedures
      • Collaborate and make proposals for production engineering work to make informed decisions in alignment with the business strategic plans
      • Communicate needs and difficulties to Design Engineers and Detailers to assure quick disposition of technical challenges
      • Provide technical expertise and guidance to the engineering function
      • Develop and maintain design practices used by production engineers and detailers
      • Provide technical requirements for design tool development and maintenance
      • Develop and document technical specifications for Engineering design practice standards and for various design tools (EDS, STAAD, MBS, Mathcad, etc.)
      • Research building code changes and lead the effort in changing Engineering design approach accordingly
      • Train and mentor less experienced Engineers
      • Continually improve productivity, accuracy, and ability
      • Protect the public by employing sound engineering judgement without being overly conservative in the approach
      • Provide technical expertise on all applicable building codes, material design standards, company procedures, computer software programs, and industry sponsored research
      • Implement Engineering policies and procedures to achieve company objectives
      • Involve in Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) and their efforts to grow the use of metal building design in future code editions
      • Involve in engineering fixes for problems during the building construction
      • Provide expert witness in legal disputes
      • Protect company IP

      Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering; Master’s degree preferred
      • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the metal buildings industry or related field preferred
      • Licensed Professional Engineer
      • Experience in industrials, manufacturing, and/or building products
      • Solid knowledge of Engineering disciplines, process design tools and procedures
      • Ability to influence leadership to adopt new ideas, products, and/or approaches
      • Ability to perform under pressure and lead multiple initiatives simultaneously
      • Good level of understanding of technology, digital solutions, & model base engineering
      • Strong process improvement background; Six Sigma Certification preferred
      • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization
      • Strong people management, performance management, and knowledge and experience in organizational effectiveness and engineering management
      • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi tasks
      • Strong oral and written communication skills
      • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
      • Skilled in writing and presenting to senior management
      • Exceptional PowerPoint and Excel skills
      • Detail oriented

      The US base salary range for this full-time position is $90,000 to $130,000 annually + medical, dental, vision benefits starting day 1 + 401k and PTO. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. (Full-time is defined as regularly working 30+ hours per week.)
