      Job Title: Senior Designer

      Classification: Full-Time, Exempt

      Salary: DOE

      Reports to: Jenna Mackowiak, Creative Director

      Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am- 5pm (occasional evenings/weekends as needed)

      Location: In-Office (no remote), 5000 N Basin Ave., Portland, OR 97217


      General Summary

      Premier Press is a 51-year-old print and production icon known for blending hands-on creative execution with high-level design. We’re seeking a seasoned Senior Designer with strong experience in print, branding, and agency-style concepting. In this role, you’ll help drive daily creative output while upholding the highest standards of innovation and craftsmanship. Projects span production support and full-scale creative campaigns, including graphic design, branding, illustration, photo retouching, packaging, influencer marketing, retail, and branded environments. Strong conceptual thinking and a working understanding of 3D design are essential.


      Key Responsibilities

      • Collaborate with the Creative Director to manage design requests, prioritize workload, and maintain project timelines across multiple clients and deliverables.
      • Lead and contribute to concept development through brainstorming sessions, helping the team generate strategic, visually compelling solutions.
      • Present work confidently on client calls and internal reviews—clearly communicating design rationale and aligning creative with project goals.
      • Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring consistency, attention to detail, and high-quality execution under tight deadlines.
      • Develop innovative creative concepts across packaging, experiential design, print, and branded environments that are both fresh and brand-relevant.
      • Contribute to early-stage strategy and ideation, helping shape creative direction from concept to completion.
      • Stay up to date on trends, materials, and technology to bring forward-thinking ideas and solutions to the table.
      • Create polished presentation materials for internal and client-facing reviews.
      • Mentor junior designers and lead collaborative design critiques to elevate team output.
      • Respond to feedback and evolving project parameters with flexibility while maintaining conceptual continuity.
      • Support internal marketing efforts by maintaining brand assets and developing compelling promotional visuals.
      • Consistently uphold and elevate Premier Press’s creative standards across all work.

      Qualifications

      • Expert-level visual design skills, including sketching, layout, typography, and color theory.
      • Ability to quickly iterate 2D and 3D concepts with clarity and purpose.
      • Advanced understanding of digital, offset, and large-format printing processes. Familiarity of materials, use cases, and applications.
      • High proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign); experience with SketchUp and/or Fusion 360 is a strong plus.
      • Familiarity with MS Products (Outlook, OneDrive, Teams, Sharepoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
      • Comfortable working on both Mac and PC systems.
      • Awareness of current trends in design, architecture, fine art, and fabrication.
      • Experience designing for retail, museums, tradeshow exhibits, or visual merchandising are a plus.
      • Video editing or web design skills are a plus.
      • Strong communication, organization, and project management abilities.
      • Flexible, team-oriented, and adaptable to shifting priorities.
      • Familiarity with project management tools such as Trello, Figma, Miro etc.

      Education & Experience

      • A bachelor’s degree in graphic design and/or 3-5 years of progressively technical design experience that spans brand, print, packaging, and environmental design.
      • Submit a portfolio or link that includes a full range of design styles that should include graphic design, illustration, events, retail, packaging, environments, etc.
      • Comfortable discussing previous work, process, and working timelines to assess aptitude.
      • Adobe Creative Suite expertise

      Additional Details

      • Work Environment: Office-based with typical equipment usage.
      • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 20 lbs; frequent sitting, standing, walking, and fine motor tasks; must have full range of visual acuity.
