      The BIS is looking for senior economists to join the Economics for the Americas (EFTA) team at its Representative Office for the Americas (BIS Americas Office).

      We are interested in receiving applications from economists with a PhD in economics or finance or with a MA/MSc with relevant work and research experience as well as from specialists in financial technology.

      Purpose of the role:

      Join the BIS and play a pivotal role in fostering high-level policy dialogue and advancing policy-relevant research among central banks across North and South Americas. Our work primarily focuses on the BIS shareholder central banks in the Consultative Council for the Americas (CCA), which includes Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and the United States. We also engage with other central banks in the Americas and beyond, broadening the scope and impact of our efforts.

      In this role, you will directly contribute to this mission by shaping and conducting policy analysis and policy-oriented research on critical topics such as monetary policy, financial stability, innovation and the digital economy, and macroeconomic issues in the Americas. Your work will help inform decision-making, strengthen collaboration, and support the stability and growth of economies across the region.

      • Engage with impactful and diverse topics: Contribute to a wide range of issues critical to the Americas, while aligning your work with your own research interests and maintaining your areas of expertise.

      • Collaborate in a dynamic and supportive environment: Work as part of a small team of experts in the Americas Office, while benefiting from cross-border collaboration and knowledge sharing with colleagues in the BIS Representative Office for Asia and the Pacific and the BIS headquarters in Basel.

      • Build connections across a global network: Join a collaborative network of economists, central bankers and academics across the region, fostering open dialogue on key monetary and financial issues in the Americas.

      Principal accountabilities:

      • Prepare background notes for meetings of central bank governors and other high-level officials from the Americas and other regions.

      • Conduct economic research with focus on the following areas: monetary policy, financial stability, digital finance and the digital economy, and growth and productivity in the Americas.

      • Coordinate the work of the CCA consultative groups in the following areas: m onetary policy, m arket operations, financial stability, innovation and the digital economy, research and risk management.

    • Monitor economic developments in the Americas.

    Qualifications, skills, and experience:

    • A PhD in economics or finance with broad ranging experience, a MA/MSc with relevant work and research experience gained at a central bank, international financial institution or research institute, in academia or the private sector or a specialism in financial technology or the digital economy.

    • A strong research record and a proven ability to identify and address policy issues relevant to central banks in the Americas, such as: m onetary policy, f inancial markets and institutions, fina ncial technology, payments and the digital economy, and E conomic growth and productivity.

    • Excellent drafting and communication skills in English.
