      Senior Editorial Engagement Manager

      The Springer Nature Editorial Engagement Team works to engage and mobilize the external community of over 90,000 Editors and Editorial Board Members (EBMs). The Senior Editorial Engagement Manager will lead the planning, development and implementation of an integrated outreach program to meet organisational objectives and enable the successful delivery of our editorial engagement strategy. This will include the effective use of events, communications and online communities to deliver impactful campaigns that serve to strengthen Springer Nature's relationships with our Editors and EBMs and ensure they are kept informed and motivated.

      Responsibilities

      1. Strategic delivery: Ensuring our external communications support and deliver on the editorial engagement strategy and wider organisational objectives. Responsibilities include:

      • Facilitating the development of an effective multichannel communications strategy targeted at the Editor and EBM audiences
      • Researching and self-educating to stay abreast of best practice in editorial engagement and communications
      • Developing and managing a regular program of market research activities with external Editors and EBMs, in collaboration with the Head of Editor Events, to inform ongoing program development
      • Working alongside the Senior Editor Training Manager to ensure the training program is represented through our communications strategy and meet their wider objectives
      • Leading the development of new communications solutions to meet organisational needs
      • Collaborating with the Communications and Engagement Team to devise a new community-led engagement strategy and integrate this into our external editor communication plans
      • Facilitating engagement and communication between the wider organization and the Editorial Engagement Team
      • Evaluating overall program effectiveness to inform the development of our communications approach

      2. Editorial engagement activity: Ongoing delivery of a program of communications and outreach activities to deliver on the objectives of the Editorial Engagement team. Responsibilities include:

      • Leading the development and delivery of a pipeline of communications across multiple channels
      • Acting as the first point of contact for editor communication needs and supporting the wider organization to devise communications plans for engaging these core stakeholders
      • Collaborating with the Head of Researcher Events to devise and deliver a program of editor events in alignment with our wider communications strategy
      • Leading the development of best practice guidance and template materials to support Editorial and Publishing Teams in engaging with their Editors and Editorial Board Members
      • Identifying key needs and priorities for this audience and devising effective solutions to address these
      • Monitoring monthly reporting KPIs and leading projects to demonstrate editorial engagement ROI

      3. Team Management: Ensuring team resources are effectively deployed to meet the needs of the organization and individual team members. Responsibilities include:

      • Recruiting, training and managing a high-performing team of communications experts who support delivery of our editorial communications strategy
      • Provide coaching and training for members of the wider Editorial Engagement Team, as required by business needs
      • Promoting a culture of continuous improvement in the Editor Communications Team; ensuring that all team members are able to contribute to development of our communications strategy
      • Key Relationships
      • Liaising with Editors and EBMs to inform the editorial communications strategy and engage them with Springer Nature
      • Collaborating with the Head of Community Engagement and Chief Scientific Officer to identify communication priorities
      • Building a close working relationship with the Communities and Engagement Team to ensure the effective development and implementation of a community-led engagement strategy
      • Building strong relationships with internal publishing and editorial teams to understand requirements and opportunities
      • Building a close working relationship with Research Marketing to enable the delivery of key campaigns
      • Collaborating with the Head of Editor Events on the development of our editor events
      • Reporting regularly to the Editorial Engagement Team, wider PP&I and Journals team on progress and development of the editorial communications strategy
      • Developing a good working relationship with our Corporate and External Communications teams

      Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

      • A university degree or equivalent experience
      • Line management skills, preferably experience working with remote teams
      • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
      • Highly effective oral and written communication skills
      • Ability to tailor content to different audiences and platforms
      • Confidence in communicating, engaging and working cooperatively with stakeholders at various levels of seniority, including researchers, editors, and other partners in a professional manner
      • Excellent organisational skills including coordinating multiple priorities
      • Ability to work cooperatively and flexibly with other members of the team
      • Ability to be a self-starter, taking ownership of tasks and accomplishing them independently
      • Experience of building and developing relationships within the research and scientific community
      • Thorough understanding of editorial and peer review processes in journal publishing
      • Thorough understanding of the roles and responsibilities of Journal Editors, EBMs and Reviewers
      • An understanding of best practices relating to Editorial Board activity and engagement
      • A demonstrable understanding and interest in scientific research and the publishing landscape
      • Experience of managing projects with cross-departmental stakeholders
      • Proven track record of designing and completing projects to schedule and plan
      • Awareness of best practices for accessibility and inclusion
      • Experience working with global teams

      Annualized Base Salary Range: $85,000- $105,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education and skill level. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
