      Job Purpose

      Our department supports the UNY gas distribution network by planning and designing maintenance, growth, and regulatory-driven projects. This position will oversee the design of complex distribution and other engineering projects. Complex projects include designs per NYSDOT standards, HDDs, pipe on bridges, ect. It will coordinate internal and external design resources to deliver required design packages, which could include 3rd party engineering consultants for design, geotechnical investigations, mark out, civil construction ect. This position will act as a project technical representative, interface and coordinate with the necessary municipalities, NYSDOT, and construction crews, and provide updates on design budgets, progress milestones, and potential conflicts.

      Key Accountabilities

      • Make authoritative technical recommendations to provide design solutions that are of appropriate quality and level of detail throughout design and construction.
      • Provide technical assistance when responding to field design changes.
      • Accountable that designs meet all engineering best practices, meets all National Grid, State, and Federal Standards, and are PE stamped, if necessary, by the PE manager, a team member that reports to the PE manager, or a PE at the assigned Engineering Consultant.
      • Perform design quality peer reviews
      • Assist in the training of Engineers within the department on Complex Distribution Engineering
      • Develop job scopes for contracted work, handle Engineering Consultant selection, and manage invoicing, deadlines, and deliverables with Engineering Consultants.

      Qualifications

      • Demonstrates the ability to interpret codes, regulations, policies, procedures, and solve problems using a mixture of in-house and external resources.
      • In-depth knowledge and technical experience of gas distribution system and demonstrates deep understanding of the issues impacting the energy industry sector.
      • A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline is required.
      • Minimum of 4 years engineering or equivalent work experience is required.
      • A Professional Engineering (PE) License is desirable but not required.
      • An advanced degree and/or certification is desirable but not required.
      • Valid driver’s license is required.

      Salary

      $97,000 - $114,000 a year

      This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Internal candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
