      At the hub of ENMAX Power is a highly technical Operations Planning Engineering team committed to operational excellence in reliability. We are looking for a Senior Engineer, Operations Planning to join our team of passionate engineers. This role will coordinate and analyze transmission outages requests, provide engineering support to the System Control Center, and provide risk mitigation plans.

      Major Responsibilities:

      • Develop weekly transmission outage contingency plans, ensuring effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to reduce system risks and optimize the outage scheduling process

      • Utilize expertise to authorize real-time and short-term transmission and network system outages by conducting engineering evaluations with mitigation plans

      • Use an EMS to analyze real time transmission operational concerns

      • Resolve real-time transmission system concerns with System Control Center operators using engineering procedures and plans

      • Coordinate real-time and short-term transmission incidents with the AESO and other neighboring transmission entities

      • Perform engineering studies and liaise with members of the distribution planning, transmission planning, and network operations planning teams to discuss existing or anticipated operational system issues that could impact system reliability or maintenance outage availability

      • Develop and maintain seasonal operational load flow cases in conjunction with the Transmission Planning group

      • Develop staging plans for the integration of major projects into the system

      • Ensure compliance with the requirements of Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS), specifically regarding engineering/System Control Center procedures and training

      • Coordinate multi-departmental EPC incident Management Team in responding to major system incidents

      • Review, maintain, update and develop procedures necessary for reliable and efficient operation of the transmission and distribution electric systems

      • Prepare and present the system control center Operators’ training sessions on technical control center procedures and distribution generation interconnections

      Education Required:

      • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering

      • Registration with APEGA as professional Engineer

      Qualifications & Experience:

      • 10 years of utility-related experience

      • Detailed knowledge of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System and familiarity with Alberta Reliability Standards and the regulatory framework in Alberta

      • Comprehensive understanding in the operations and/or planning of transmission and distribution power systems

      • Strong competency in the application and implementation of the Incident Command System (ICS)

      • Knowledge and experience using transmission SCADA and Energy Management Systems (EMS)

      • Proficient in using software packages including PSS/E, CymeDist, PSCAD, PI ProcessBook, PI Vision, Python, and PowerBI

      • Experience being On-Call with responsibilities including management of incident response considered an asset

      • This is a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) designated role. CIP training is required to be completed annually, as well as a requirement to have a criminal record check completed every 7 years and to pass a personal risk assessment.

      • Superior organizational skills with the ability to manage a wide variety of projects/programs and the associated active issues and risks

      • A desire to build relationships and trust amongst stakeholders utilizing an agility to adapt style to various audiences

      • Takes ownership of projects and carries them through to completion with limited supervision

      Location: This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) work force with office workspace located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will have the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays and will work in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
