- Lead multi-disciplinary teams to plan, prepare and coordinate OoM studies, including options development/analysis and evaluation of business cases to deliver a strong, mature pipeline of sustaining capital projects
- Develop Sustaining Capital projects from the project initiation phase through to Stage Gate 1
- Support and promote compliance with standardized project processes, systems and tools
- Prepare project estimates, budgets, forecasts, schedules and study plans
- Collaborate with sustaining capital teams to drive a culture of collaboration, participation and improvement
- Work closely with Asset representatives, Business Analysts and support teams in areas such as Project Services, Contracts and Procurement and Health and Safety to deliver OoM studies in a safe and coordinated manner
- Build relationships with our key stakeholders, to enable a seamless flow of information and to ensure all documentation is clear, supported and adhered to
- Be a valued partner for site operations and maintenance teams in the delivery of focused solutions
- Manage vendor performance and allocation of project engineering resources to deliver study objectives and deliverables
- Provide OoM reporting and regular updates to the Studies Superintendent and Portfolio Management, focusing on budget, schedule, risk and quality of deliverables.
- A degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or Civil) with Engineers Australia accreditation
- Demonstrated ability in safety leadership in the mining or relevant industry
- Excellent verbal and written communication and a proven ability to engage with multiple stakeholders
- Well-developed time management and prioritisation skills, with high attention to detail and excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong relationship building, influencing and organisation skills, with an ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment
- Previous engineering experience in order of magnitude project delivery ideally within iron ore mining
- Significant experience working in mining operations or similar heavy industry
- Proficient computer skills across multiple software applications
- Knowledge of Archer, CPMS, Sustaining Capital Framework and ALIM drawing systems will be advantageous

Senior Engineer | Sustaining Capital Projects

Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Portfolio Management team is looking to recruit a Senior Engineer to lead order of the magnitude (OoM) studies within Sustaining Capital. The primary focus of the role will be to deliver Sustaining Capital OoM projects and feed the pipeline of projects through strong stakeholder engagement whilst supporting the overall end-to-end OoM studies process.

This is a permanent position working Monday to Friday out of the Rio Tinto offices in the Perth CBD. There will be flexibility to work from home on occasional days and ad hoc travel to site in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
