      Position Summary:

      The Senior Facilities Engineer will provide engineering support and technical expertise for critical building utilities for all buildings at the Gaithersburg Campus. These critical utilities include Clean Utilities (UPS water, WFI, pure/clean steam) and Plant Utilities (plant steam, condensate, compressed air) systems. Responsible for the full life cycle of utility systems including specification/ design/ installation/ commissioning/ service & maintenance/ inspection & testing/ routine use & user checks/end-of-life testing and decommissioning.

      Responsibilities:

      • Develop and maintain effective relationships with Key Customers to understand operational requirements.

      • Develop, alongside the project delivery, design, commissioning, and maintenance providers, handover acceptance criteria for the critical utilities at the Gaithersburg site.

      • Provide leadership, development, and mentoring for others.

      • Identify temporary and permanent fixes to address issues.

      • Initiate appropriate action when process deviations occur.

      • Monitor records to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

      • Attend team meetings to discuss progress, initiatives, and/or other matters.

      • Monitor equipment and/or systems for performance and problem indicators.

      • Ensure all critical utility projects will be aligned with the sustainability and environmental strategy for the Gaithersburg campus.

      • Properly support each project to ensure that project-specific strategies are developed, implemented, communicated, and constructed.

      • Utilize Project Planning principles to define prioritized objectives, document planning assumptions and key decisions regarding alternatives considered, facilitate communication among stakeholders, and support project delivery.

      • Utilize Engineering knowledge and tools to ensure equipment is reliable and maintainable.

      • Define the scope of work that supports the business goals, obtaining approval from the Project Sponsor.

      • Create clear boundaries and definitions of the facilities, processes, and systems to be delivered.

      • Mitigate risk but utilize a systematic approach to reduce the project's exposure to risk by identifying, understanding, analyzing, and managing uncertainty in a project.

      • Utilize detailed and site-specific policies and procedures, job hazard assessments and hazard communications, personal protective equipment (PPE), and staff training to minimize and control all safety risks.

      • Ability to multitask and manage multiple tasks/projects concurrently.

      • Maintain a current and thorough understanding of all utility and manufacturing equipment typically found in Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Utility Plants, R&D Labs, Pilot Plants, and cGMP manufacturing environments.

      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

      • Proficient in computer skills and MS Office application suite.

      • Experience in maintenance trades and knowledge of building codes and regulations.

      • Available 24/7 to direct and coordinate emergency issues.

      • Responsible for supporting Change Controls, Deviations, and SOPs in responsible areas of control.

      • Review design and construction documents for new site projects. Familiarity with all construction and engineering terms and processes.

      Education:

      Minimum Requirements:

      • 4-year degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering Degree or relevant experience and 5 years of experience supporting facilities engineering within a regulated or cGMP environment.

      • 5 years or more in Clean / Plant utilities systems

      Preferred Requirements:

      • Master’s degree in Engineering.

      • PMP Certification

      • 2-5 years of Project Management experience

      Special Skills/Abilities:

      • Technical Knowledge: Pharmaceutical systems, industrial utilities, process equipment, GXP, HVAC, General Construction Practices, Maintenance Software, Building Management Systems

      • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as financial reports, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure policies. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.

      • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

      • Reasoning Ability: Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in­ depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

      • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

      • Computer Skills: Outlook, Internet Explorer, SAP, Capability to Utilize Various Programs Developed for Day to Day Operations, Specialty Maintenance PM Software, MS Office Programs (Excel, Word, Project, etc.)
