      Senior Financial Lines Underwriter – Salary of up to £95,000

      Are you someone with a strong underwriting background looking to provide technical leadership in Financial Lines within the Chief Underwriter’s Office?

      The role would suit an experienced underwriter who enjoys thinking strategically over both the short and longer term with the desire to develop our underwriting approach to solve complex problems.

      This role is open to both London and Manchester and would require you to come in to the offices at least 3 days per week. If Manchester based, we would need you to be able to get to London when required.

      A bit about the job:

      Reporting to the Speciality Lines Underwriting Manager you will provide leadership on technical underwriting issues including developing underwriting guidance and defining risk acceptance rules. We are looking for someone with a strong technical underwriting background who is looking operate at a strategic rather than trading level.

      The work includes supporting the dedicated wordings team to ensure our policy wordings are clear for our customers, operate as intended and are aligned with our risk appetite and researching new and emerging issues to identify potential future threats and/or opportunities and develop underwriting and risk management solutions to either mitigate the effects or grow our business.

      You will be expected to represent Aviva externally, engaging with a range of stakeholders potentially including regulators, reinsurers, and market bodies to inform and influence discussions on key matters.

      Duties & Responsibilities

      • Optimise performance to help deliver UKGI financial targets by setting technical strategy and defining underwriting appetite

      • Develop and own Financial Lines underwriting philosophy, strategy, risk appetite, technical wordings, and drive improvement opportunities in the likes of wordings, processes, pricing or strategy

      • Hold a high level of Financial Lines underwriting authority and act as both a referral point and a conferral point on complex cases, with specific authority for strategy exception cases

      • Input into furthering Aviva technical understanding of current and emerging risks, opportunities and customers, which will drive technical strategy and product set, supporting underwriting excellence and good customer outcomes

      • Providing governance and oversight of the Financial Lines trading teams, primarily through the Peer Review system and also supporting internal audits and other related processes across UKGI

      Skills and experience we’re looking for:

      • Strong technical underwriting knowledge preferably in PI

      • Ability to engage and influence a broad range of internal and external stakeholders

      • Ability to communicate complex subjects in a clear, concise and simple way

      • Experience of developing wordings

      • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and solve issues using own initiative

      • Starting salary up to £95,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
