      Job Summary

      The GIS Manager leads a team of analysts to support, develop, and enhance Purdue’s enterprise GIS and CAD environment for Administrative Operations. Plan, direct, and review analyst work and accomplishments. Manage, execute, and report progress on moderate to complex GIS projects, strategies, and priorities. Ensure continued stewardship of existing datasets including, but not limited to, statewide property holdings, infrastructure, utilities, transportation, surface features, building footprints and floorplans, hydrology, points of interest, and campus amenities.
      Implement initiatives and priorities. Manage and administer production and publication of maps, apps, dashboards, reports, and other visualizations for internal and external stakeholders, including the University’s online public facing campus map.
      Interpret and implement University policies, particularly those regarding data management. Create documentation along with metadata and cartography standards. Develop training programs and resources for both analysts and users. Collaborate with Purdue IT and campus business partners on products and solutions, upgrades, integrations, and enterprise data management.


      The GIS Manager also collaborates with interdepartmental and agency partners such as county GIS agencies to support campus addressing and initiatives such as aerial photography.


      This position is approved for remote work up to 75% of the time with an onsite presence for project reviews and meetings.

      What We’re Looking For:

      Education and Experience:

      • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Cartography, Geomatics, Informatics, Data science or related area
      • Four (4) years of recent relevant experience managing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and staff
      • In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience
      • Related experience in an architectural/engineering or urban planning environment, including knowledge of automated mapping, spatial information processing methods and techniques, database design and structure
      • Data management experience

      Skills Needed:

      • Proficiency in the use and management of GIS software and solutions
      • Must be highly skilled in spatial application analysis and design
      • Skill with relational databases, business intelligence and Microsoft Operating Systems and applications
      • Knowledge of, and ability to interpret and apply industry standards to data collection and management of applicable systems.
      • Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
      • Ability to:
        • exercise independent judgment and creativity necessary to balance competing priorities across multiple clients and units
        • add, manipulate, and analyze complex spatial data
        • adopt a learning attitude towards quickly obtaining and maintaining proficiency in relevant existing and emerging technologies
        • work both individually and as part of a team
        • influence and build sustaining work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels
        • maintain confidentiality and use tact and discretion

      Preferred:

      • Space management experience
      • Experience in a university setting
      • Knowledge of programming languages such as SQL, Python, and Arcade
