      Summary:

      Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking a Senior Graphic Designer. This position is multi-faceted and for someone that can move quickly in a fast-paced environment with an emphasis on interpretive graphic design. The Senior Graphic Designer will design, install, maintain and archive all graphic design products produced by the department. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate the Zoo’s mission through original, creative and imaginative interpretive design while working collaboratively with all departments and stakeholders. This position reports directly to the Supervisor of Design & Interpretive Services.

      Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to) :

      • Responsible for more complex, multi-faceted graphic requests including but not limited to Foundation Department requests, complex animal information graphics, and multi-page or multi graphics requested within one project.
      • This is completed by following through on projects from conceptualization to production including but not limited to: Working with the Supervisor of Design & Interpretive Services to determine scope of project, developing sample layouts for approval, interfacing with outside vendors, presenting samples for approval, and preparing final layout for production.
      • Assess signage quality throughout the Zoo to ensure it is up to the standards and address any concerns/needs
      • Printing, production, and installation of signage needs through both in-house printing and outsourcing.
      • Tracking, requesting, and ordering of materials (paper, ink, etc.) needed by the department.
      • This position will mentor and teach the Graphic Designers within the department by providing constructive dialogue on their design projects and being a resource for information on up-to-date trends in design and design software.
      • Manages multiple projects within design specifications and budget restrictions.
      • Interacts and collaborates effectively with internal and external team members to assure creative needs of the company are met.

      Qualifications:

      • Minimum of 3 years of design experience in a professional setting (preferably in an entertainment business setting such as, but not limited to, a zoo, museum, or science center).
      • Experience as the main designer of a minimum of 2 major projects from start to finish showing a high level of creativity and organization.
      • Ability to multi task.
      • Ability to exhibit good judgment.
      • Able to enhance the interpretive graphics experience for the guest and maintain a positive experience for all.
      • Willingness to be flexible with constantly changing standards and expectations.
      • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Graphic Arts or Design.

      Physical Requirements:

      • Although the primary duties of this job are indoor in a normal office environment, the employee will be exposed occasionally to outside, potentially adverse, weather conditions.
      • Perform some repetitive motion activities.
      • Sit for long periods of time.
      • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.

      • Team Player: Strong ability establish collaborative relationships with peers, managers and directors. Ability to work independently and as a member of the team.
      • Multi Media: Experience in a variety of art media and photography.
      • Technology/Software: Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Flash (digital/web-based software), Microsoft Office software and other necessary graphic programs in Mac and PC platforms.
