      Job Description

      The Opportunity

      Manulife is looking to hire a Senior Investment Transactions Paralegal to provide legal support for its Investment Division. Based out of Toronto, the Senior Investment Transactions Paralegal will provide transaction support primarily in the private equity and private placement areas of the company. In addition, the incumbent will provide support on legal and regulatory matters relating to public and private debt and equity investment transactions, real estate acquisitions and dispositions, third party initiatives and various company projects on a global basis.

      Primary Job Responsibilities:

      • Understand concepts of investment transactions.
      • Compile deal documents and other information and acquire signatures.
      • Complete private equity fund subscription documents and coordinate the provision of supporting “know-your-client” documentation with outside counsel and administrative agents.
      • Support company real estate acquisitions and dispositions, and various investment funds involving Manulife/John Hancock’s mortgage and real estate portfolio.
      • Build, review and revise documents required to support various investment subsidiaries.
      • Assist in transaction management by supervising deadlines and outstanding matters.
      • Supports project-based initiatives relating to investment portfolio.

      Desired Qualifications:

      • Paralegal certificate and/or bachelor’s degree plus demonstrated experience with law firm or corporate law department required.
      • Five or more years’ experience in a law firm or corporate legal department preferred.
      • Must be a self-starter, detail oriented, highly organized, possess excellent analytical skills, demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, and be able to work independently on multiple, simultaneous assignments with minimal direction.
      • Must be able to work collaboratively with paralegals, lawyers, administrative assistants and clients on transactions, department projects and initiatives.
      • Must be a Notary Public or must be able to become a Notary Public.
      • Proficient in the use of knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Adobe and redlining.

        Salary & Benefits

        The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

        Primary Location

        Toronto, Ontario

        Salary range is expected to be between

        $68,775.00 CAD - $114,625.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
