- The Senior Lab Assistant will be responsible for leading, organizing, coordinating, reviewing, and monitoring lab assistant duties including venipuncture, order entry, processing, clerical functions, queue monitoring, result management and problem resolution.
- The Senior Lab Assistant will be responsible for departmental oversight including competency completion, competency development and assessment, and implementation and review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- The Senior Lab Assistant will work closely with the Laboratory Management team to develop process and quality improvement programs.

- This position is a full-time position with a minimum of 36-40 hours a week.
- This position will require multitasking with technical departmental duties and administrative duties.
- Education:
- This position requires an Associate’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related health field with attendance in an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician clinical program. Must have passed national certification test Two years of experience in clinical laboratory setting.

- Must have a valid Wyoming driver’s license and a good driving record (less than 2 moving violations within previous two years, no alcohol/drug related violations on record with the Driver’s License Division.

- Responsibilities include oversight of lab assistant functions including order entry, specimen collection, processing, send out testing, inventory management, queue monitoring, and result management including scanning.
- Can assign each member of the team tasks based on their competency and skill level to meet daily demands of the department.
- Maintains lab assistant hand off communication log and performs follow up on all outstanding or pending issues.
- Maintains newborn genetic screen documentation including;
- Completeness of documentation prior to courier pick up, pending queue,
- Assists with follow up phone calls for patients,
- Maintains remote website access and follows up with any delays in the process
- Assists with troubleshooting and problem resolution.
- Reviews orders for accuracy including miscellaneous sendouts.
- Follows up and communicates any delays in testing to Lab Director and Medical Director.
- Help resolve pending billing issues, such as the suspended billing queue.
- May enter manual charges
- May work with the billing department to develop charge
- Maintains Breath Alcohol device including calibrations.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills to assist with troubleshooting and problem resolution. May require reaching out to other departments or leaders for assistance.
- Offers suggestions for process improvement. Collaborate with Lab Management and Medical Director in the revision of lab procedures.
- Trains new lab assistants and other phlebotomy students in venipuncture and phlebotomy techniques, lab assistant procedures and result workflow (depends on skill level).
- Can provide courier duties for pick-up of specimens in the absence of other staff.
- Informs Lab Director or Medical Director of any issues that would affect patient care.
- Demonstrates the values of team concept on a consistent basis. Interacts with all team members in a professional manner.
- Assists in ensuring all shifts are covered, including being able to cover shifts during times of short staffing or emergencies.
- This may include being available afterhours to help answer questions or for help as needed.
- Uses effective service recovery skills to solve problems or service breakdowns when they occur.
- Presents a friendly, approachable, professional demeanor and appearance.
- Work with HIS/LIS to troubleshoot and build testing as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Laboratory Director or Medical Director.

JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Lab Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Director and the Laboratory Medical Director.
