      We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lawyer to join the Debt Products Legal (DPL) team to help support our complex lending business and help deliver our growth plans. DPL plays a key role in supporting the Group’s commercial lending proposition of today, whilst preparing us for the advances in the future. DPL serves as a centre of excellence and business partner, bringing a diverse mix of people, skills and expertise to the Group in managing the legal risks arising from our lending products, generating insight and value.

      JOB TITLE: Senior Lawyer - Debt Products Legal

      SALARY: £111,809 - £131,540

      LOCATION(S): Edinburgh, Bristol & Leeds

      HOURS: Full-time

      WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.

      About this Opportunity

      DPL supports both the product and coverage areas of Business & Commercial Banking (BCB) and Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB). In addition, DPL provides support to the Risk Division’s Business Support Unit and Recoveries teams. Within DPL, we work in an agile way across our team and the business units and stakeholders which we support, across CIB, BCB and Restructuring.

      DPL is looking for a Senior Lawyer on a permanent basis to support principally the complex lending proposition and the CIB business, particularly the Debt Solutions Group, which includes Infrastructure and Project Finance, Funds Finance, Leveraged Finance (mid and large cap) and Investment Grade lending. We operate as an agile team and there will be opportunities to engage in and influence across the wider range of activities the team supports.

      This is an innovative and constantly evolving area within the Legal & Secretariat community. We love to do things differently in DPL and are ready to welcome the curious and agile to work at the heart of embedding legal risk management and delivery of BCB and CIB’s lending ambitions. Help the legal leadership team manage legal risk and develop initiatives for an agile and insightful legal team.

      Specifically, this role will involve:

      • providing complex lending expertise, drawing on in depth knowledge of complex syndicated and leveraged finance lending and advising on both transactions and strategic matters.

      • coaching colleagues in applying legal advice in day-to-day activities to deliver effective legal risk management on both transactions and strategic matters

      • establishing legal insights that improve DPL effectiveness and underpin delivery of transactions.

      Providing insightful, high-quality advice and guidance across CIB transactional and strategic matters and building effective team working with wider BCB & CIB Legal teams by leading and supporting on such strategic or thematic developments across BCB, CIB and Restructuring. Enabling effective legal risk management and governance of the wider legal risk profile.

      Our lawyers operate on an agile basis and are keen to upskill and willing to support legal, regulatory or other projects across DPL (including across CIB, BCB and Restructuring) as well as wider Legal & Secretariat teams, products and businesses as appropriate.

      Developing knowledge of trends within the legal market, with a specific focus on complex lending, exploring tech solutions, evolving legal services, and being able to translate this into usable insight.

      What you'll need

      • Be confident in working alongside other Senior Lawyers to lead a team of lawyers using experience and insights to influence, innovate and challenge both business and technical decisions. Helping mitigate control and legal risk weakness.

      • Highly motivated self-starter with ability to prioritise own workload. Leading various tasks requiring a high level of proficiency and detail.

      • Representing BCB & CIB Legal at, amongst other things, CIB Risk Committees and Debt Solutions Group Governance Forums.

      • Demonstrate continuous learning and self-development and awareness of market developments.

      • Explore new ways of managing legal risk through automation, leveraging data and external legal advisers and industry bodies such as the LMA.

      And any experience of these would be really useful

      • Strong operational, legal and regulatory knowledge of commercial lending, particularly syndicated lending.

      • Experience and knowledge of leveraged finance and undertaking transactions start to finish.

      • Strong reviewing, drafting and negotiating skills particularly in respect of syndicated senior facilities agreements and inter creditor agreements.

      • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

      • Experience in coaching, leading and developing others.
