Drive valuable technology transactions, which will include negotiation with customers and drafting subscription, data processing, and professional services agreements and amendments
Provide proactive strategic advice and guidance to internal teams regarding business and legal issues and risks
Facilitate and maintain relationships with customers and internal teams.
Continually challenge current practices (internal and external), identifying areas for improvement and championing efforts to enhance operational and commercial efficiency
Help build and improve contract templates and playbooks and provide internal training to sales, contract operations, and the broader GTM legal team on how we can create a streamlined customer contract experience
Support other key initiatives which further the business requirements of a fast-paced industry and company
J.D. Degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least 1 state bar
7+ years of experience as a practicing attorney in a law firm or in-house/public sector legal department
Exceptional contract negotiation and drafting skills, comfortable and adept at teaming with leadership in fast paced customer facing transactions, preferably with enterprise software/SaaS experience
Strong ability to influence, advise, and advocate for the business’ interests
Exercises superior judgment and in tune with complex needs of the business to advise clients in an effective and creative manner
Cultivates internal and external relationships and leads project collaboration with cross-functional networks
Exceptional written and oral communication skills, enabling effective communication with legal and non-legal audiences

The Go-to-Market (GTM) legal team provides transactional counsel and support to Workday’s Diversified Industries (Large Enterprise) Sales vertical. We partner with the broader Workday legal department and other cross-functional groups to drive growth, deliver a trusted, outstanding customer experience, and scale on our path to $10 billion in revenue. This Senior Counsel will be one of the GTM attorneys supporting a highly valued business function focused on new transactions with some of our largest prospective customers. This lawyer’s primary responsibility will be to support the Diversified Industries (Large Enterprise) Sales team within the Pacific and Mountain time zones. Secondary responsibilities will include supporting other US sales teams, both customer base as well as net new transactions, in addition to participating in projects which help to streamline contracting and other processes relating to the GTM motion. They will partner with deals management, sales operations, services, product, finance and contract operations. This attorney will also be a member of a legal team guiding our legal strategy and enablement efforts.
We are seeking an outstanding lawyer who can balance multiple responsibilities and tasks in a fast-paced and high-growth environment. The ideal candidate will be a true field leader and possess an executive presence that will make them effective and persuasive in dealing with and building relationships with customers as well as senior management and business executives. They will help Workday build and sustain a fast-growing SaaS business and will have a proven track record of leading complex commercial transactions between large entities and in enhancing transactional efficiencies generally.
