Reporting to the Director, Utilities & Building Operations, the Senior Manager, Client Experience & Building Operations is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operations of all heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, mechanical and related automation systems located within the buildings on St. George Campus. The Senior Manager is responsible for the development of safeguards for continuity of operations during emergency situations and maintains and updates emergency plans.
The Senior Manager is a visible and central role within Utilities & Building Operations and prioritizes and builds effective partnerships with clients, seeking to continuously elevate client service levels and enhance communications. The incumbent will establish service target levels for the building operations team(s), and measures and reports on target compliance. The incumbent also supports the other Facilities & Services teams to deliver superior solutions to campus stakeholders.
The Senior Manager directs and provides technical and business leadership to managers of a portfolio of campus facilities, as well as a manager of automation & control systems. These teams deliver building operations and maintenance services. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing a broad and diverse unionized staff complement serving the St. George Campus.
The Senior Manager will ensure that all mechanical and HVAC operations and equipment are compliant with all applicable health, safety, an environmental and technical standards are met..
The Senior Manager develops, manages a large, complex operating and maintenance budget and coordinates development and delivery of a significant capital renewal and deferred maintenance budget. The incumbant actively participates in the University's campus-wide sustainability efforts to initiate and support opportunities in collaboration with the university’s Sustainability Office and energy management teams. They provide technical consultation and building operations guidance to other University departments.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
Degree in engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience; P.Eng. preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum ten years’ related experience in the field of building operations and maintenance. Experience managing staff in a unionized environment required.
SKILLS
Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence others to gain consensus. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Effective budget planning and management skills. Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills. Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and to develop creative solutions to complex problems under conditions of fiscal restraint.
