      What you will be doing

      We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager of Data Science to join Albertson’s Data Science department in Pleasanton, CA. Albertsons operates over 2,300 stores under 19 well-known banners including Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw's, Acme, Tom Thumb, Randalls, United Supermarkets, Pavilions, Star Market, Haggen and Carrs.       Data Science at Albertsons is inspired to build best in class customer experience and revolutionize the food and drug retail industry. We are looking for people who are excited in re-imagining the grocery experience by harnessing the power of AI and digital technologies. The Data Science team collects and relies on big data from existing stores and customer interactions at the 2300 nationwide stores and beyond. We are a highly driven team that applies data science to delight our customers, to improve store operations, to optimize supply chain and to proactively improve product lifecycle.

      As the Senior Manager of Data Science, you will be responsible for leading a team of data scientists and driving data-driven decision-making across the organization. You will play a critical role in leveraging data analytics and machine learning techniques to optimize our operations, enhance customer experience, and drive business growth. The successful candidate will have a strong background in data science, preferably a good understanding of the grocery retail industry, and a proven track record of delivering impactful insights and solutions.

      The position will be based in Pleasanton, California, Phoenix, Arizona or Plano, Texas.

      Main responsibilities

      • Leadership and Strategy:
        • Provide strategic direction and vision for the data science team, aligning it with the overall business goals and objectives.
        • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of data scientists, fostering their professional growth and development.
        • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize data science initiatives that align with business needs.
      • Data Analysis and Insights:
        • Utilize statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling techniques to extract insights from large-scale data sets.
        • Develop and implement data-driven strategies for personalization, customer engagement, demand generation, and promotions.
        • Conduct advanced analytics to uncover patterns, trends, and opportunities for improving customer engagement and personalization.
      • Business Optimization:
        • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to define key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop data-driven solutions to achieve business objectives.
        • Identify and implement innovative approaches to leverage data and analytics for revenue growth, cost reduction, and process optimization.
        • Provide actionable recommendations based on data analysis to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
      • Data Infrastructure and Technology:
        • Work closely with the IT team to ensure robust data infrastructure, data quality, and data governance practices.
        • Stay up to date with emerging technologies, tools, and methodologies in the field of data science and recommend appropriate solutions for the organization.
        • Oversee the implementation and integration of data science solutions into existing systems and processes.
      • Communication and Collaboration:
        • Effectively communicate complex data-driven insights and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership, to influence decision-making.
        • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as marketing, operations, and product, to drive data-driven initiatives and foster a culture of data-driven decision-making.
        • Stay informed about industry trends, competitive landscape, and best practices in data science and retail analytics.

      The salary range is $129,700 to $181,480 annually. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates.

      What we are searching for

      • Master's degree in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline. A Ph.D. is preferred.
      • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data science, machine learning, and statistical analysis (grocery retail experience is a plus).
      • Proven track record of leading and managing a team of data scientists, delivering impactful insights, and driving data-driven decision-making.
      • Expertise in programming languages such as Python, SQL, and proficiency in data manipulation, analysis, and visualization.
      • Strong knowledge of machine learning algorithms, predictive modeling, and statistical techniques.
      • Experience with big data technologies, cloud platforms.
      • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to translate complex business requirements into actionable data science projects.
      • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
      • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment and effectively manage multiple priorities.
