- Provide assistance on matters related to OPG’s corporate strategy and strategic planning issues;
- Provide leadership and strategic direction while developing and evaluating major corporate capital investments and growth initiatives;
- Manage or support a range of strategic development, growth, planning and commercial initiatives;
- Perform specific assessments and investigations on a range of strategic matters; and
- Develop and maintain relationships in the energy sector, investment community and with leading innovation hubs to anticipate trends and seek out transformative technology advancements.
- Provide strategic business and commercial advice, guidance and support to the Director, Enterprise Strategy & Growth related to OPG and its subsidiary companies.
- Monitor and assess key corporate strategic developments related to nuclear, hydro and/or other growth development (internal and external), and facilitate the integration of business intelligence, information, perspectives and analyses.
- Support development of corresponding business unit and corporate strategies and contribute to drafting reporting and updates on the economics of business opportunities, enterprise priorities, and key performance indicators.
- Assess and advise on specific electricity policy and/or strategic issues affecting OPG and address specific strategic queries by senior management.
- Interface with internal stakeholders to access information, resources and specialized expertise, and provide input to the development of supporting functional strategies and operating and business plans.
- Perform strategic studies and analysis in support of corporate strategic planning, including initiatives that support OPG’s Strategic Objective.
- Assist in the review and integration of functional business strategies to ensure alignment with corporate strategies and priorities.
- Monitor external best practices in corporate strategic planning and analysis.
- Support OPG’s Strategic Initiatives and Support OPG's internal strategic planning process.
- Support OPG's internal capital allocation process and its integration with corporate strategic, business and investment planning.
- Project manage and/or support a range of strategic development and planning initiatives.
- Analyze and assess business policies and government, business trends and new business opportunities, and supporting strategies and plans for seeding and advancing growth options/opportunities, while leveraging support resources from across the corporation as required.
- Support the negotiation of commercial arrangements with external parties in the fulfillment of the above initiatives.
- Lead or partner with internal project or deal teams and work external advisors on potential business opportunities.
- Collaborate across business units and with Corporate Strategy to support the development of OPG’s enterprise growth plans, including assessing new technology options and business development opportunities/investments, and other joint initiatives.
- Develop and maintain a network of relationships with stakeholders in industry, supporting services, government and academia in support of ongoing research and various strategic initiatives.
- Prepare regular briefing reports and special assessments; undertake both primary and secondary market, business issue or policy research.
- As necessary, develop and manage a business intelligence database and address specific management queries.
- Liaise with industry experts both inside and outside Canada to obtain a broad context for understanding various trends and developments of significance to OPG.
- Develop and implement initiatives to strengthen the linkages between the Business Strategy Development, Commercial Management, Finance and other internal organizations by fostering collaboration on applicable initiatives and common issues.
- Undertake synthesis and analysis of business intelligence to identify potential business opportunities and threats and propose strategies to capitalize on opportunities and/or mitigate threats.
- Perform high-level opportunity assessment in support of quick-turnaround queries from senior leadership and to support communications with shareholders.
- Prepare business case summaries and memoranda for senior management.
- Monitor trends, valuations, and developments in the electricity, energy and financial markets and incorporate changes and updates as appropriate in the models and databases on a timely basis.
- Provide professional leadership; ensure that staff seek out best practices, develop their skills to benefit OPG to meet current needs and for succession planning in the organization.
- Ensure staff are fully engaged and aligned to business goals and objectives. Promote collaboration and teamwork, instilling expectations of excellence and personal best performance. Provide a safe, healthy and positive working environment.
- University Degree with a focus in Finance, Business, Economics, Math, Statistics, Engineering or Business Administration, or a relevant study is required;
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA/CA) designation, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA ) is considered an asset; and
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Finance (MFin) is also considered an asset.
- Minimum six years of progressive experience in strategy, corporate business development or investment banking;
- Qualified candidates with more than six years of relevant progressive experience will also be considered as we continue to grow our business;
- Strong strategic and facilitative leadership skills with a minimum of 3 years of management experience is required; demonstrating the ability to effectively lead, influence and motivate a team of high performing business development, investment or financial modelling resources;
- Requires critical thinking, analytical, research and creative problem solving skills. A keen eye for detail;
- People orientated with strong interpersonal skills, adept at building and maintaining positive, productive and collaborative working relationships and partnerships externally and internally with a wide variety of stakeholders, including the ability to present material to senior and executive management;
- Strong sense of urgency and decision-making skills conducive to managing priorities and meeting internal and external timelines;
- Strong problem-solving skills to address and overcome current and future challenges. A strong drive and a high level of energy, commitment and enthusiasm to take on complex and challenging situations in a dynamic organization; and
- Experience and exposure from working in/for energy or infrastructure investments, power generation or utilities is preferred.
