Job Description
- Req#: R-131029
- Lead the Underwriting Independent Review (UIR) process for Commercial Insurance (Internal Quality Assurance audits over Underwriting in Commercial Lines).
- Prepare the annual UIR plan using the Risk Based Methodology outlined in the Commercial Lines Underwriting Reviews Framework
- Implement the approved plan engaging the relevant leaders (LOB/ Business Units)
- Run UIR Activities and Scope including Terms of Reference, sampling, file selection and reports.
- Work with the data analytics team to collect policy data for file reviews based on the established sample selection criteria for a given UIR.
- Connect with leaders throughout the review process from preliminary planning meetings, end of review results meetings and through UIR specific documentation including Terms of Reference and reports.
- Ensure the Review team is calibrated and outputs align with established Underwriting Procedures and Business Standards.
- Agree on remedial action with Underwriting Leaders.
- Track and monitor all remediation activities obtaining, and reviewing evidence to close all action items.
- Analyze QA data and provide insights on results and progress to plan quarterly for various committees and leaders.
- Support and lead all aspects of Underwriting Quality Review (UQR) activities for Commercial Insurance through Quality Reviews both as part of the UIR process and independently. Monitor SLAs and work with leaders to ensure SLAs and quality standards are maintained.
- Conduct Underwriting Control Validations (UCV) for Commercial Insurance reviews as determined by the Head of Technical Governance and Quality Assurance and Business Leaders, CTU, Risk and Control, Internal Audit, Pricing Leads etc. based on ad-hoc issues that present challenges to the governance and/or profitability of Aviva Commercial Lines.
- Support and collaborate with Risk to identify iCare issues and provide evidence for issue closure.
- Collaborate with 2nd line and Internal Audit to provide evidence and supporting documentation.
- Collaborate with CTU teams to provide feedback on Commercial Lines processes and guidelines.
- Participate in ongoing and future changes, reviews or amendments to the Commercial Lines Underwriting Review Framework for Commercial Insurance.
- Lead and mentor the QA team to achieve strategic goals and embed a Risk and Control culture in Commercial Underwriting by providing feedback their performance.
- 10+ years of Commercial Underwriting experience including property, casualty and Automobile is required.
- 5+ years experience in leadership role
- Additional UW experience in Equipment Breakdown/ Engineering is preferred.
- Knowledge of Surety is an asset.
- The ability to read/understand French is an asset.
- Experience in risk management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Shown ability to influence leaders and achieve consensus
- Good working knowledge of MS office suite
- A strong negotiator with influencing skills to persuade the operation.
- Outstanding leadership skills to mentor and develop the QA Team.

The Senior Manager, Quality Assurance will lead the Commercial Lines Quality Assurance (QA) program for Internal Authority as outlined in the Commercial Lines Underwriting Reviews Framework and in line with the Aviva General Insurance Underwriting Business Standards. Focus is on assessing the level of compliance with underwriting controls and ensuring that corrective action is taken to address any gaps identified through the QA process. This role supports a culture of continuous improvement across commercial lines and the aim to underwriting excellence.
