      Thurston County Public Works is recruiting for a Senior Office Assistant to join our dynamic, energetic, and innovative team. The successful candidate will provide high quality customer service to Public Works internal and external customers, advise the public regarding detailed regulations and procedures, utilize the computer and related programs to complete complex projects, and assist in the development of department/office procedures.

      Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:
      • Independently prepares, formats, and coordinates complex packages such as agenda items, contracts, change orders, and bid documents.
      • Handles inquiries and requests from residents. Assists in resolving complaints or requests, requiring excellent customer service skills.
      • Provides administrative support during various emergency situations.
      • Maintains a wide variety of complex records, such as preparing technical, statistical, and narrative reports relating to operation of work unit.
      • Performs a variety of coordinating activities for supervisor/manager; relays and obtains information from other County departments and outside agencies.
      • Arranges meetings, itineraries, and calendars.
      • Utilizes a variety of software, including desktop publishing packages, to create documents, brochures, information packages, educational materials, presentation items, and various other products.

      • High School Diploma or GED.
      • Two years experience in an office environment with responsibility for performing a full range of senior level office support tasks, including experience providing information and assistance to the general public.
      • Ability to type at a minimum of 55 wpm (higher levels may be required for specified positions).
      • Ability to fully utilize the personal computer and related software programs.
      • Washington State Driver's License may be required.
      • Strong customer service skills.
      • Thorough knowledge of general office practices.
      • Ability to interpret and apply program information in making work decisions or in supplying information to others.
      • Ability to maintain complex specialized records and prepare narrative or statistical reports based thereon.
      • Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions regarding work methods.
      • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
