      ABOUT THE ROLE

      We are looking for an exceptional Cambridge IGCSE, AS and A-Level Physics Teacher to teach to our senior grades. Resident teachers lead instruction of their language across multiple grades and classrooms and are responsible for driving a rigorous, enquiry-based learning environment the Nova Pioneer way. Resident teachers are supported by Deans of Instruction who partner with them in their growth journey - observing lessons, providing feedback and coaching. Resident teachers support and mentor apprentice teachers.

      Key responsibilities for the role include:

      • Deliver exceptional, real world, enquiry-based Chemistry lessons that align with the South African curriculum requirements.
      • Maintain positive, constructive and professional relationships with students, their families, and colleagues.
      • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning, is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students, and maintain an organized and focused learning environment.
      • Infuse joy and passion for learning in lessons and so that students are excited about and invested in their academic excellence.
      • Provide necessary accommodations and modifications for the growth and success of all students.
      • Be accountable for students’ mastery of academic standards.
      • Integrate interactive technology into lessons to enhance instructional delivery.
      • Set and communicate rigorous and ambitious goals for all students and provide student feedback so they internalize them.
      • Provide consistent rewards and/or consequences for student behaviour.
      • Consistently meet the ambitious goals of a rapidly-growing organization.

      ABOUT YOU

      Skills and Qualifications required:

      • SACE certification and relevant Bachelors of Education Degree in Teaching.
      • You have a BSc degree and a PGCE in FET teaching of Sciences.
      • Strictly 3+ years of teaching experience.
      • You have taught Physics and Chemistry at the secondary school level (Grade 8 - 12 experience)
      • You have taken Physics and Chemistry as majors to the third-year level at the university
      • You are a great communicator. You are able to provide clear and effective written and verbal communication to the leadership team
      • You are flexible and open to change - you handle uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity well.
      • You are a problem solver - you are proactive in identifying issues and address these thoroughly by making effort to find appropriate solutions.
      • You are excited about our organizational culture and in particular, you are fired up to challenge yourself by embracing mutual vulnerability and a firehose of feedback

        About Teaching at Nova Pioneer

        Nova Pioneer teachers don’t lecture, they lead discussions and facilitate projects that help students engage deeply and think critically about course material. There are two types of teachers at Nova Pioneer: Resident Teachers and Apprentice Teachers.

        Resident Teachers are able to lead classrooms and, depending on the grade level they are teaching, have strong content knowledge. Resident Teachers are typically qualified teachers with classroom experience or have a strong ability to lead a classroom independently, lesson planning supports teachers to enable them to deliver rigorous enquiry-based learning and to engage deeply with students to help them on their individual learning journeys.
