Job Description
- Req#: 141
- You have 7+ years of professional experience in software or data engineering, with a proven track record of shipping and owning complex, data-intensive applications.
- You have 5+ years of deep, hands-on experience building scalable, testable backend services, libraries, and APIs in Python.
- You possess strong, practical experience of engineering data solutions on the Databricks Lakehouse Platform. You're comfortable with both the data engineering (Spark/SQL) and platform aspects (cluster management, job orchestration).
- You have a solid understanding of the Azure cloud and have hands-on experience with services like ADF, APIM, SQL MI, or CosmosDB.
- You understand the difference between transactional and analytical data models and know how to choose the right tool for the job.
- You have a passion for mentoring others and a history of leading complex projects, even in an informal capacity.
- Cloud Platform: Microsoft Azure
- Data & AI Platform: Databricks (Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, Workflows, SQL Warehouse, Model Serving)
- Backend & APIs: Python (FastAPI, Pydantic)
- Databases: SQL Server MI, CosmosDB, Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS)
- Orchestration & DevOps: Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure DevOps (ADO)
- API Management: Azure APIM
- Pragmatic Ownership: You treat the platform as their own product. You don’t wait to be told what to do and feel accountable for the end-to-end success of a feature, from code quality to production stability. You are practical, shipping value iteratively rather than chasing perfection.
- Collaborative Leadership: You understand that their primary role is to elevate the team. You lead through influence, not authority. You actively mentor others, share knowledge freely, and are skilled at explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Bias for Action & Resilience: In our fast-paced environment, you don't get paralyzed by ambiguity. You are driven to make progress, test ideas, and learn. When things fail or a project hits a wall, you don't get discouraged; you get curious, learn from the setback, and drive forward.
- Insatiable Curiosity: You are genuinely passionate about technology and are constantly learning. You don't just know how to use a tool like Databricks; you want to understand why it works the way it does. This curiosity drives you to find better solutions and stay ahead of the curve.
Senior Platform Engineer - US (Remote)
Why this Role Matters:
Are you a Senior Platform Engineer ready to take a career-defining step into leadership? Are you tired of maintaining legacy systems and want a greenfield opportunity to build a modern platform the right way from the ground up?
We are a rapidly growing FinTech on a mission to hit 20x growth in the next five years. To do that, we are building a new, cloud-native technology platform on Azure and Databricks. As our Lead Platform Engineer, you will be the foundational technical expert at the heart of this transformation. You won't just be joining a team; you'll be the architect and builder of the core data and application services that will power our entire business.
This is your chance to own a platform, establish a modern engineering culture, and put yourself on a clear, defined path to becoming a Principal Engineer.
How you’ll be measured:
Architect the Core Background: Design and build the central nervous system of our company. You'll create scalable, secure, and testable microservices and libraries using Python, FastAPI, and Pydantic. You'll manage and secure these services through Azure API Management (APIM).
Master the Databricks Lakehouse: Engineer our end-to-end data platform. This includes building robust data ingestion and transformation pipelines using Delta Live Tables and Databricks Workflows, ensuring data quality and governance with Unity Catalog, and optimizing Spark clusters for both performance and cost.
Drive Data Orchestration & Integration: Implement and manage complex data flows using Azure Data Factory (ADF). You'll connect disparate systems—from our core Salesforce platform to transactional data in SQL MI and document data in CosmosDB—and play a key role in architecting our modernization strategy for legacy systems.
Establish Engineering Excellence: You will define what "good" looks like. This includes implementing best practices for the entire Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) within Azure DevOps (ADO), from version control and CI/CD to automated testing, security (CodeSec/DataSec), and observability.
Mentor and Lead: As the senior technical expert, you will guide and mentor other engineers and external partners. You will create the reference implementations and documentation that enable the entire team to build effectively and scale.
